Low testosterone, low sex drive = little to no BDing

Hi out there, I was just wondering if anyone has a DH with low testosterone, which causes low sex drive.

I myself am diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve, so we feel like he is the only hope we have. His sperm counts and motility are great. He has slightly abnormal morphology, but not enough for our RE to have concern.

The problem is, my husbands sex drive is low and you all know how important timing is when TTC. Though not often, we do have sex, but he is not always able when it's necessary for BDing.

Testosterone meds are not an option, as they cause low to zero sperm count. We have done 8 IUI's with a variety of protocols, and are now out of money and trying au natural, and trying in this horrible economy to save $$$ for IVF.

He is able when he gives a sample for the IUI's, so that is not a problem. It's the fact that we are trying naturally, and we need to be BDing way more often! Also, for the intimacy in our relationship.....

Thanks ladies for any advice out there! We need all the help we can get!!!

My DH has low testosterone and a lower libido than me, luckily he is about as easy to arouse as a 14yo boy, so timed bd was not an issues for us. Apart from the normal “fun” of doing it on a schedule.

My guess is that it’s in his head, he’s probably stressed out. If he has managed it for all those IUI’s in one of those horrible rooms he should be able to under better conditions. He could be worrying about lots of things, he may be afraid of being laid off, supporting a baby in this economy, not being able to do it(of course if you think you can’t generally….) and so on. You can try talking to him, to help to relive the pressure he is feeling.

My DH also has low testosterone (183) and low sex drive. He also has below normal morphology. My RE put him on clomid (25 mg/day I believe) bc it boosts testosterone and does not kill sperm like the testosterone meds do. Hopefully that will help!

I was so relieved to find out that dh had a low testosterone number. That explained why his sex drive had gone to nearly zero. It wasn't me or our relationship, it was merely his hormones. That being said, I could take better charge of our fertility. I invested in a home ovulation monitor (clearblue easy) There are also individual test strips on the market that will tell you when you are about to ovulate- can find them at the dollar store. This way I could initiate BD when necessary. The first month we did this way I did get pregnant, unfortunately miscarried. Worth a try anyway! Good luck!

Smile What a relief

I was so relieved to read your post. FINALLY a possible answer to my DH's low sex drive. You always hear about women not wanting to have sex and NEVER the issue of men not wanting to do it as often. It does make it harder when TTC. I am 42 and my DH is 44 and we've been TTC for 4 months. We are very affectionate with each other and love each other very much, however he stresses alot about work, money, supporting a new family etc etc. I know alot of it is in his head and he admits that! He is always willing to "do the deed" when I'm ovulating (which is great) however I know we need to be "trying" more often. I have had to be so patient and trying so hard not to make him wrong or think there is a problem in our relationship. He had a Semen analysis test and we're waiting for the results. After reading your story I am going to get his testosterone levels checked as well. This could be the answer to my ongoing frustration. Thanks for your story!!!!!!!

bellabean: I am relieved to see your response! It doesn't seem there are many of us out there with hubbies who have a hard time too. Unfortunately, the testosterone/sex drive meds supposedly cut down on sperm count. But did you see on here where RCO said that her hubby takes clomid for testosterone/sex drive. Could be an option!
