My husband had two children with his ex-wife. We are now wanting to have a baby and wondering what our options are. We know he can have a vasectomy reversal, but we have several concerns. They are expensive. They seem to have about a 50% success rate. Is it possible to do surgical sperm retrieval with IUI? I am not sure I am ready to consider IVF.

My understanding is you have to do IVF if you are doing a sperm retrieval. Because the sprem in the testicle don't have tails they can't swim to the egg. In IUI (which we are doing) the sperm is put into the uterus (bypassing the cervix) and giving them a better chance to swim and meet up with the egg. So yes you can do surgical retrevial but you can't do IUI with it.
