Clear Semen?

My husband had full circumcision surgery over a year ago due to severe phimosis. He had never ejaculated before this but has been fine since recovering from the surgery. However, he has only ever ejaculated completely clear semen. It has been slightly thick, like a gel, but not whitish at all. He is 27 years old (I'm 24) and we have sex only a few times a month and he doesn't masturbate more than once or twice a month, so I know it's not that he is just ejaculating too often. Could this clear semen mean that he has a low sperm count? We've been trying for 6 months but to no avail...have just decided to take some time off now. Of course we're been trying when I've been ovulating and have done everything "the way we are supposed to." He is the first one in his family to have had phimosis and no one in his family has had any infertility issues in the past. (Neither of us have.) He is not currently taking any medications. (Nor am I.)

Unfortunately, I can't help you with this, but I do want to say welcome! I would imagine the best thing to do is to schedule an appt for him to see his urologist and have a SA done. This will answer your questions, and hopefully put you at ease.

Good luck - you've found a great forum for information!

I don't think you can tell about sperm qualility from the appearance of semen, the only way to know is by having a semen analysis done. Welcome to board and best of luck to you!

Welcome! I agree with Shelly and Slobin, an analysis will tell you what you need to know.

I would recommend your husband see a urologist as well as an endocrinologist. i would recommend not only a semen analysis, but ask the doctor to check his testosterone level and his LH and FSH levels. I'm not familiar with phimosis, but from the way I understand your post, he has never ejaculated BEFORE that surgery? His failure to produce ejaculate previously, the clear semen now, and (i may be wrong or off-base here) what sounds like a low sex drive all mimic the symptoms I experienced when I was diagnosed with Hypogonadotropic Hypogonadism. I think your husband needs to have some blood work done to see if he has a problem with his endocrine system. Good Luck!
