Exclamation Can you help me decifer my results...

Hello Everyone,

I am new here (unfortunately, no offense) as I have just received my first complete semen analysis results. I was hoping folks could shed some light on the severity of my case. I fully intend to have several more tests and to do everything I can to improve my numbers, but wanted to get thoughts on the following.

I abstained for 48 hours before test and went to a reputable cryobank here in Los Angeles. My wife and have been trying for 5 months unsuccessfully and this was the first step to learn more about our fertility...

So. My numbers were

Volume:2.1 Ml
Concentration: 12.9 M/ml
Count: 27 M
Motility: 33%
Morphology: 43% normal 57% abnormal (31% head, 8% tail, 17% neck)

Some of these were listed as borderline, but the fact that they were all very low makes me nervous. What elements of this can I effect? What is out of my control? Which fertility treatments should I be educating myself on?

Thank you all. I am very happy to see the success stories and look forward to adding mine soon!

to the group. Your numbers aren't horrible, but they are on the borderline. But that doesn't mean you can't get your wife pregnant! (My husband only has 3% motility. Our only option is IVF via ICSI.)

We have learned of a few ways to increase the sperm motility. Now I have to start off with saying that none of these have been proven in a double blind study, but many people who have tried these have gotten good results...

We were told that it takes almost 72 days for sperm to develop fully, so any ways you try to increase your numbers needs to be for at least three months...

First is losing weight. It seems that being overweight can lead to poor sperm quality. I don't know your situation, but if you have excess it might be a good idea to diet for several months and see if that helps.

Second is taking anti-oxidants <sp>. You can take these in the form of foods, vitamins, or powder mixes. My husband takes a fertility blend powdered drink twice a day to help his count.

Third is staying away from hot tubs/baths. Heat kills the swimmers. So from now until your next SA you should avoid the heat.

There are just a few ideas to get you started.

Welcome to the forum, glad you joined us - even though we'd all rather not need a place like this it is our reality. There are a few different ways you can enhance your semen analysis results. You can take vitamins and supplements, small things like to stop smoking or excess alcohol consumption, stress, heat, etc. Things like having a cold or infection could alter results too. They normally like to wait about three months before doing a repeat. My husband has poor morphology (92% being abnormal mainly in the head and tail). He gave up soda pop for a summer and his next semen analysis showed a 7% increase in his morphology which was great. His count has always been borderline.
