Question Low motility - thoughts please?

DH had his semen analysis done and the nurse called me on Friday with the results. She didnt really tell me anything other than he has low motility and they want to do a repeat analysis and some blood work on him to run hormone levels and genetics testing for him. She didnt give me a count or anything but I guess it doesnt much matter at this point if they want to do another one. So he is scheduled for that on Tuesday morning. I have my 3 week scan on the 14th to see if the big cyst on my left ovary has gone down. We have our next consult on the Monday after Thanksgiving to discuss all the test results and hopefully have a game plan for treatment. I would really like to be pregnant by Christmas or at least by the New Year, I feel like I have waited long enough. I am ready to stop the BCP's and the constant headaches because of them. If your DH had an analysis and it came back low motility, did it affect your treatment process?? We are looking to do IUI's. Does low motility mean we cant do IUI?? Is there anything we can do to help DH's motility become better? Thanks for your time ladies!!

My husband and I just finished 3 IUI cycles with clomid and his samples were all low everything.
Our RE is making us go to IVF mostly due to the limited number of samples (we froze prior to chemo) and our stupid state limits (3 IUI's and 2 IVF's). Our RE never said it changed our odds that the counts and motility were low (one time we only had 40,000 swimmers). It just didn't happen. I hope this helps out.

Good luck to you.

We had an appointment today, and found out that DH raised his motility from 0% to 20% in 1 1/2 months. He was taking medications that imapacted sperm quality last year, so we're not sure if it was that, or the vitamins he was taking. He started taking L-Argenine, L-Carnitine, CoQ10, and L-Carnitine Acetyl daily, (I can't remember the dosage...) and a whole lot of Vitamin C in the last 8 weeks, and I think it may have had something to do with the increase, but I can't prove it. We're still moving onto IVF (20% before wash is still not a whole lot, I guess) but hopefully won't need ICSI, if the motility continues to increase. Good luck, and hang in there!

...This is the actual breakdown of what he took:
1000 mg Vitamin C
200 mg CoQ10
1000 mg Acetyl L-Carnitine
500 mg L-Carnitine
1500 mg L-Argenine

This was on top of his normal multi-vitamin, B-complex and a 400 IU Vitamin E. He took some with breakfast lunch and dinner to break it up a little. Did I mention how committed he was?

Hope it helps!

Stephanie,

My DH has similar issues and his first SA results showed about 8 live sperm. RE put him on Lotus Tiger supplements in August and his SA results have shown a significant increase in performance. Granted between his first SA and now he has also had surgery for a varicocele so we can't say for sure which caused the increase but he is confident it was the Lotus Tiger.
