Vericocele sucess?

I was wondering if anyone had any sucess with surgery or embolization to correct a vericocele? My DH's urologist thinks he has a vericocele (he is going for an ultrasound as soon as I get a appt for one). I Read on another forum that there is a debate going on whether a vericocele even effects sperm count. I was just looking for anyone that might have had one done and had an improved sperm count afterwards.

My Dh had vericocele surgery in March of 05 and his counts were at 8 million. In the following spring his counts had rose to 15.7 million. To me, the sugery is worth it...it very well could help his counts to rise. I am thankful that my DH had the surgery as now his problems are nearly cleared up and mine are just starting! Good luck!

Well I keep reading all thease negative post. I guess my real question should be has anyone had sucess with a vericocele removal when dealing with secondary infertility? Theoritcally I would think if he had good sperm at one point then he could get it back, right? I dont know what to think, but my hubby is going for an ultrasound tomorrow.

Harmoni,

I'm not sure you really read my reply. The surgery DID help my DH's counts. In therory the vercocele is causing the testicle to warm up (in my hubby's case) and that kills sperm. After having it fixed, he no longer has pain and his counts have rose dramatically! Good luck.

I did read the post, I guess I was more trying to say that we dont want to have to do IVF. I actually found 2 women on another site that had really good improvements (from 2.1 mill - 51 mill). So i guess there is hope that the numbers can improve that drasically. Thanks for the help

The norm is 20 million so even at 15.7 mill we don't necessarily need to do IVF either. If your DH is having pain, inflamation and heat in his testicle, this surgery will definately help, IMO. Good luck with everything!

DH's urologist "thought" he had a veriocle but his count and steadily increased without the surgery. Granted it's still not in the normal range but it's two to three times better then it was our first test. I think it's up in the air.

My DH had varicocele surgery this past Wednesday. His left scrotum is enlarged. He is also experiencing pain when he sits, is this normal?

My husband also has a small varicocele, a low sperm count, and low testosterone, but his urologist placed him on medication (Arimadex). He felt him having ther surgery would not help... His testosterone rose greatly, (from the Arimadex)but his sperm count only increase a little. They wanted to try him on Clomide to see if this would help, but not sure if this will help or not. We are actually in the process of switching Infertility MD's since it was taking like 2 1/2 -3 months just to see the Infertility MD for a follow up, so we are holding off until we see our new fertility MD. I can keep you posted on our progress.

Hi Lola,
My husband had this surgery a few years ago..he was in some pain afterwards and swelling..(they did give him an ice pack to go home with that he used for a few days which seemed to help). If the swelling is extreme I would definately call the doctor though!

As far as his count going up after this surgery, it did go up a little bit, not enough to make a drastic effect on helping us conceive.. (I have heard other stories though that it drastically improved, so it is worth having the surgery)

Hi all

Hi all, I've been MIA for a couple of months. DH had varicocele surgery late October. He will undergo another semen analysis in late January to see if his count has gone up.

Hi girls, just wanted to let you know that my DH had varicocelle surgery and his sperm took one year to get better after that, I know it sounds a long time, but after the surgery his SA was terrible, we went through IVF (BFN) and now his count is 19 m. go figure!!! it seems it takes more than 3 or 6 months for some people....
