I am new to this, so I am not real sure how everything works.
My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for over a year. We descided to get a sperm analysis done to make sure everything was ok. You know because everyone tells you " to be patient that it will happen when you aren't trying". Well we just recieved our results yesterday. Unfortunatly, they weren't good. We haven't been able to meet with the doctor yet about the results. So I have a lot of unanswered questions and I'm scared. This is one of those things that you think will never happen to you. My husband only has 1% normal sperm and 73% severely amorphous sperm. I'm still in that stage where you just want to cry. It isn't fair that all these people who don't want kids or can't take care of them can just pop them out like it's nothing. I just have to stay hopeful and strong. God has a plan for us. |

And as a very thin silver lining, I always think it's better to have an explanation for infertility, because then you can start coming up with a plan. As Kristin mentioned, IVF may be an option. And I've read other threads on this board about measures men have taken to improve their sperm quality/count, which seem to be somewhat successful. So, notwithstanding the bad news, try to stay hopeful. And good luck!

Try not to freak out too much until you can talk to your doc. He/she should be able to make some kind of recommendation on what options you have. If the dr is your OB-GYN, it would be a good idea for you to start seeing someone who specializes in infertility (IF), like a Reproductive Endocrinologist (RE). They specialize in this more than your regular OB-GYN. And like kblythe said, I agree that it's better to know why it hasn't happened for you yet. Lots of couples are told they have "unexplained infertility" which I think would be even more frustrating.
Also know that you're not alone in your sadness and frustration. These forums are full of women who know exactly what you're going through. I myself feel surrounded by friends who seem to get pregnant as often as they want just by thinking about it. WE GET IT! Post and read as much as you need to, there are lots of threads for all kinds of questions and issues. Good luck!

I also would take a lot of positive out of knowing what exactly is wrong. IVF could be very successful for you and has a higher success rate than IUI. You're in my prayers!

We too had everyone telling us after a year that it will happen when we aren't trying so hard. Its hard to have patience, i know. Our fertility Dr. told us when theres a sperm issue IUI is the way to go. Thank heaven for modern day medicine!

Good Luck
I agree with you. It isn't fair that young kids are having babies and we can't get pregnant. I think that if your husband has any sperm, they can do something to help you get pregnant. My husband had chemo when he was 18 and it significantly lowered his sperm count. We are just starting our 1st cycle of IVF. I am very nervous, but find this site to be helpful. Good Luck!

I am very sorry to hear about you. Even my DH's sperm count is below average and the motility is also not good. I can understand you must be devastated. I have also been through that phase. But now I have stopped crying and just try to be positive. Even we might have to go for IVF and lot of people have conceived through IVF. So just hope for the best and we r all here to support each other through this journey.

My husband has abnormal sperm as well. He's receiving male infertility treatment at Pacific Fertility Center in San Francisco.
After trying for 1.5 years and being "patient", we decided to seek fertility advice. It's upsetting at first when you find out you can't conceive "naturally" but as mentioned in a previous post, thank God for modern medicine. |

Just thought I would jump on here as our diagnosed fertility issue is DH as well. He has azospermia which pretty much means no sperm come out. In his case there is no reason for it. There isnt blockage or anything. We did IVF 2 x and on the 2nd time it worked and we have a wonderful 2 year old girl. We are going through IVF for a 2nd child now. We had to use testicular sperm and it still worked so keep your hopes up there are ways to treat male factor even though there arent many studies on it.

I hope ICSI is an option for you. For ICSI, all you need is one good sperm for each egg you want to fertilize. It worked for me and I hope that it is an option for you. I believe that drs. have even been able use this technique with men that had vasectomies. Good luck!

It IS so unfair others get to pop out children left and right, yet the rest of us are stuck trying. My wife and I have been trying for over three years to make it happen, but we are still left empty-handed. I don't know what God has in store for any of us, but for us at least we are still left in limbo. Really sux. I feel like such a loser, and this problem has severely hurt our marriage. I don't know what's going to happen.
