I had the same problem with my husband's employer. Since they are so large and nationwide, they "self insure" so they are not required to follow the state mandates.

That might be your issue too, as you can't really tell if a company is self insured unless you look for the really fine print in the benefits manual (ours was literally a footnote in tiny font) as they are usually administered by a regular insurance company.

We started the IVF process being after being told by our family doctor that we lived in a mandated state and would be covered. Boy was I surprised when we were rejected and ended up writing a big fat check.

They did pay for all the testing and lab work before diagnosis though, but zero toward IVF and ICSI and the testing related to the procedures.

Good luck!

awesome news!!! i just got off the phone with the insurance company and they said that i ahve to summit a pre-determanation letter and i have to include all procedure codes, testing codes, drugs, and the reason why...and she said to also include that our state does require that they must cover it due to a mandate....and tell them i want the whole shi-bang covered...clear down to treatment...and she said to also include a copy of the mandate...they have 30 days to get back to me...and all treament and procdures thus far will be covered!! b/w and all!!! i am so freakin excited!

Unhappy Hello

Well, we are not in a state that covers infertility treatments, and I have been researching our insurance and it does not cover anything at all. This really sinks. Anyone with any ideas. We just pd out over six thousand dollars for a tubal reversal and it went bad. Any suggestions?

I live in NY and currently taking Clomid and doing IUIs but I want to be prepared to move on to IVF if necessary...my husbands insurance company pays for IUIs but said they did not cover IVF...but from what I gather here they are required to cover it? If they aren't self insured? He works for one of the NYS Universities so I'm not sure how his insurance works...any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sarahelaine57: check out RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association: homepage and look under the quick links, then go to Insurance info and then Coverage in Your State. If I am reading you right you are in New York?? If so it does look like there might be some coverage. Check it out. I got that link from another forum page in this website (I cannot remember which one right now), but there is also a form letter at that website to send to your legislator to let them know you want them to encourage insurance companies to cover Infertility issues.
