dh azoospermia

Hi everybody. I'm new to this forum. My dh and I have been ttc for almost 2.5 yrs. We found out he has zero sperm count. Blood tests showed his fsh was elevated and testosterone was very low. His chromosome count was normal. He took Clomid x 4 months and that made his testosterone level normal but still showed zero count. He is scheduled for a testicular biopsy in August. Just wondering if any of you are dealing with this same problem? It's so difficult dealing with this and the waiting is the worst. I don't really have anybody to talk to about what we are going through and none of my friends have dealt with infertility. If anybody out there has dealt with this could you please let me know what is going on with you? Thanks!

Hi alison!

I am so sorry about your husbands azoospermia. This is such a great place for support though- I have been on here almost daily since about august last year. My husband also suffers from azoospermia.. we found out about a year and a half ago. He had high fsh levels.. (i think the testosterone was actually normal though.)
Since finding out we have had a TESE done on him- it is similar to a testicular biopsy. They found enough sperm for 3 cycles of ivf during his TESE surgery thankfully. We are now going for ivf cycle #2 in june.
There are several other wonderful ladies going through the same diagnosis who are in various stages of their ivf/iui journey ( and even a few who are now pregnant or just had babies!!)Several of them have used clomid and other treatments as well. Come check out our azoospermia thread. It helps so much to talk with others going through the same thing. There is so much hope for us!

Here is a link to our thread ( hopefully this works!! if not type in azoospermia in the "search" box up top)

Hi Alison. I just wanted you to know that you're not alone. My husband has sperm, but his count is very low. We've been TTC for about 2 years. It's a tough journey, and I know it feels like you're the only one in the world going through this, but you're not. Keep the faith There is a lot of useful information on this site, and find comfort in knowing that you are not alone.

Thank you so much for that warm welcome. It's encouraging to hear a positive result with couples dealing with our same situation. Now you say your dh had a TESE? How long did the procedure take and how long until you heard the results? We are so anxious about this next step but just praying we get the answer we are hoping for!

Hi alison!
The actual procedure itself was about an hour and a half/two hours. The Urologist came out right after he was finished and talked to me.. he just said that they found some and it was enough for 3 cycles. He had a lab person right there looking through the samples as he was taking them out.. then telling him which areas were promising/which were coming up with nothing.
Honestly I wasnt expecting them to find anything with DH's FSH being high.. I thought it meant he simply wasnt making any sperm- I was wrong!!
Hopefully you will know results right away. Some girls on here have known the same day, some the next and one even had to wait 2 weeks as her DHs biopsy sample was sent to a lab.. I think it all depends on your Dr.'s set up.
So keep hope and try not to be nervous! ( Ha- much easier said than done!) TESE's and biopsies are promising. I hope August comes quick for you!!!

Hi Allison,

My DH does have sperm, but his count is very low. So we are doing IVF and if his SA on that day is not good, then they will do TESE as a backup. Jen is right, this forum is great. You can vent and read up on how others situations are similar. It is a great support. It takes time to digest after each step, but with support, it becomes a lot easier. Good luck to you and your DH. that they find lots of sperm.

Thanks for the info, it's very helpful. I had no idea the results would be available so soon but I'm sure it can vary from office to office. I'm trying to stay positive about everything, I just keep running every scenario over and over in my head. I know my husband is very nervous about the whole thing. They aren't doing general anesthesia for the biopsy, just a local which really freaks him out (rightfully so).
