Do I chnage it?

For years now, DH and I have been planning on BRENDAN for a boy's name.
I have told friends and co-workers in the past.
The problem is sooo many people say "Aren't you going to name it BRANDON if it's a boy?"

I hate the name Brandon, and I know it is a common mistake to interchange Brendan and Brandon.

Would you pick another name because of the potential mix up?

I would go with the name you picked out!!!

I don't think you'll have a big problem with them mixing the name up and when or if it happens you or your child can correct them.

But those you and your child will be around on a regular basis...will know what his name is...and how to say it...so I don't think it would be an issue.

Go with the name you like best for your little one!!!

I wouldn't change the name if it is the one you love. I have a nephew named Brendan...I think the only person that would say Brandon was my grandma and that was due to poor hearing....she has it now....In all reality, any name you come up with there will be mistakes made....you should name your child whatever name you like....Good Luck!!!!

Stick with Brendan because ~

1. it is an awesome name
2. you can correct people just like when people use a nick name and you don't want them to (this is jennifer/hi jenny/no - it's jennifer).
3. when you send out the birth announcements, it will have the correct name on it for everyone to see
4. it's an awesome name!!

No, I like the name Brendan and there is a difference. You just have to be sure that as he gets in school that you stress to his teachers the proper spelling and pronunciation. I knew someone named Kaitlin only it was pronounce like Kite-Lin. Her teachers always got it wrong but she'd politely correct them and never have an issue after that.

Sometimes I catch myself lurking around these forums, hoping that one day soon I'll be able to graduate from the "IVF" forum to ones like this. Anyhoo... I LOVE the name Brendan so I would stick with it. I doubt many people would mix it up, especially those close to you and your family. Gor for it! What about a girl's name...?

For a girls name we like Kyra. Maybe Kyra Bridget or Kyra Aislinn...not sure of the middle name yet.

I agree Ann Marie that Brendan is an awesome name and it goes very well with Paul.
If the baby is a boy we are going to name him Brendan Richard. Richard is both of our dad's names.

It must just be in Boston that everyone screws everyone elses name up- unless it is something really common like Mike or Ann or something

You know Bostonians....we can't pronounce anything right.

I wouldn't change it. Definitely stick with Brendan. You and you child can correct people when they pronounce it incorrectly. The people you interact with the most won't make the mistake...especially once they see the spelling. When I was growing up, there was a set of twins on my street. One was named Brendan and no one called him Brandon.

Funny enough - my brother's name was Brendan and when my cousin had a son and named him Brandon, everyone automatically called him Brendan!!

June, my step-son's name is Brendyn...pronounced Brendan...just with different spelling. The ONLY person who gets it confused is my DH's grandmother who is ancient and isn't really around him that much. I do think nobody says it wrong because of the spelling, the 'y' at the end is hard to miss. I love the name...actually I also love the name Brenna for a girl, but since we already have Brendyn I guess I'll have to pass. We are looking at Josie, Ava or Ayla for a girl. Boys names aren't even being discussed...not sure why! But we will probably name a boy after my DH, Zachary. I liked the idea of having a Jr. I thought we could call him Z.J. or Zachary, my DH is "Zack." I guess I don't know. I think my mind will change so much in the next few months Good luck on your name hunt and do what YOU want to do.

Hope, my DH is a Jr. and he does not get along with his dad, so James III is not going to happen.
My nephew's name is Zachary, I like that.

I like Brenna as well. Had never heard it actually, until I read Grits' posts.

So, I am back to a definite on Brendan Richard.

Kyra Bridget??
Kyra Aislinn??
What do you think?

It looks like we're going with Julia Kathryn (or Julia Katherine....I can't decide on which spelling). Both names have ties to my family (my mom is Kathryn, her mother was Katherine, and my dad's mother was Catherine - and that's my middle name....and there's a Julia somewhere on my mom's side...I think my mom's grandmother was Julia).

Choosing a name for a person you haven't met yet is difficult.
