Interview Help!!!

I have an interview with aflac insurance. I haven't interviewed for a non-retail position since 2002. HELP!!! I still have a couple of business suits so that isn't a problem. I may even take pics of them and post and let you ladies vote. I don't know what kind of questions they will ask. I know my most important thing is the hours. Caitlin's daycare is only open 7:30am-5:30pm. Unless it is far more than what I am making now with hours past the daycare then I can't afford it. But, I am hoping this is a salary + comission job where I can not work horendous hours. Oh well, any advice is welcome!

Every place is different, have they told you anything about their interview style? I used to work in the Recruiting dept at a company that used behavioral interviewing. The theory behind it is that past behavior is indicative of future behavior. To prep for those kinds of questions, start thinking about specific incidents at your previous jobs that demonstrated skills Aflac may be looking for, like organization, people skills, and other technical skills that will apply specifically to this job. They'll be looking for details about the situation, how you handled it, and the outcome. The questions aren't difficult, but I remember feeling blindsided by the questions because they were like nothing I'd encountered before and I felt like I was taking a long time to remember/think of examples to answer the questions.

There are lots of different interview styles, but you should be well served just by reviewing your skills in your head so you have examples readily available when they ask you questions.

And don't focus too much on the hours during the interview. Save that for when they make you an offer. It can give the impression that you're not really interested in THEIR company and THEIR job and instead want them to fit into your life. It can be off-putting and could cost you the job if they have another candidate who appears more enthusiastic about joining their company than you do.

Also...go online and do a little research on Aflac (and their competitors) and all the different services they offer. I used to go online and look up interview questions too and kind of quiz myself (you'll get a good variety this way). You'll also want to be prepared with some of your own questions (this is when the research of the company comes in). Just be sure your questions aren't too personal (meaning, don't come across like all you care about is the money and how the hours impact your lifestyle...they want to see a give and take). Get those questions in there, but be sure to focus on professional questions. If you're applying for a position that you don't really know anything about...be sure to go prepared with a similar experience from your past on how you came into a position, learned the ropes, excelled, and felt a great sense of accomplishment (they like "go getters").

One BIG plus, especially if you're going to be working directly with the public...is to be sure to continually make eye contact and not fidget (don't stare them down though .. Employers know people aren't necessarily their best at interviews because of nerves, but if you can exude a calm confidence...that can be very impressive.

Best of luck to you!

Well, it was strictly a scam. This is where you pay over $250 to become an independant contractor who sells aflac. Really not what I was looking for. I need a job that I can make money at, not one I have to pay to work. So, off to the next idea--don't know what that is yet. I waisted 2 1/2 hours today.
