Sign the Fight FOCA Petition

Over 100,000
150,000 signatures!
Barack Obama is now the incoming President.
And he made a promise to Planned Parenthood last year they expect him to keep.
The first thing I’d do as President is sign the Freedom of Choice Act. That’s the first thing I’d do.
The Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) would eliminate every restriction on abortion nationwide.
  • FOCA will do away with state laws on parental involvement, on partial birth abortion, and on all other protections.
  • FOCA will compel taxpayer funding of abortions.
  • FOCA will force faith-based hospitals and healthcare facilities to perform abortions.
Barack Obama believes this legislation will "end the abortion wars." To him, "ending the abortion wars" means eradicating every state and federal law on abortion — laws that the majority of Americans support.

I'm disappointed that this forum is taking a position on a political issue, since this post is by a moderator. If this is indeed the position of FertilityCommunity, I will be withdrawing my membership. I would suggest to the board's leadership that if an individual (as opposed to a moderator) attempted to air a post in this nature, it would be deleted immediately.

Admin note: This post was moved to Off-Topic Chat because it is, in essence, off-topic. One could argue the basis of being on topic in that some who experience a multiple implantation may have to deal with the issue of selective reduction. However, this post, in no way, belongs in the general forums.

Furthermore, our moderators are members just like every one of you. They are allowed to have opinions that differ from you, from me and from Jane Doe. As long as our moderators are following forum rules, they are allowed to post said opinion. If your opinion differs, you may post a petition of your own either in this thread or in another thread (but make sure you post it in Off-Topic!).

Fertility Forums does not "approve" moderators posts any more than the average member. Moderators do not speak for the Fertility Forums Community, they simply do a job.

Thank you for your time.

I think it's a bit ridiculous and misleading to say that "FOCA will compel (force) taxpayers to fund abortions." Where exactly is that stated in the Acts proposed by the Senate or House? I believe that is the "radical" (as they like to say about Pro-Choice supporters) interpretation by the AUL (Americans United for Life).

The FOCA simply means Pro-Choice. I personally do not "support" abortion, but if a situation such as RAPE, INCEST, my life or my daughters life is in jeopardy, or the need (say, 6 embryos fertilize) for selective reduction to save the lives of as many embryos as possible presents itself, I want that option available.

FOCA was written to protect Roe vs. Wade...not to hand out abortion "free passes" or put up billboards saying "get your FREE government funded abortion here!"

So, if you are Pro-Choice DO NOT sign this petition.

I know 2 different people who have had an abortion (one was my sister!) and although I would never make that choice, I don't think it's up to us to determine what is right for them. Everyone's situation is different and until you can walk in their shoes you will never know what they are going through. It's not a situation that they can just forget about, as much as they try.

One could argue that IVF is wrong as well. I know several couples that feel this way, and I understand where they are coming from. But in the end, it's up to you to make the best decision for your life.

And look at the flip side. What if someone isn't allowed to have an abortion legally? They will end up going to some wacko and getting it done, possibly causing more damage. Or they will be forced to carry an unwanted child. We've seen what happens in that case: child thrown in dumpsters, burned in a microwave, killed, drowned. Don't you think that is just as cruel? But it still happens.

Again, I'm not saying abortion is something that I totally support. But I do support people having the choice to decide what is right for them. Think about the women that get to the end of a pregnancy and something happens. They have to choose between keeping themselves alive or the baby alive. Tough choice!

This was in no means meant to offend anyone - i was just putting the information out there about the petition.

I apologize if I upset or offened anyone here.

I am not endorsing this just letting my fellow sisters know there is a petition. I should have stated that in the post.

Sorry to have hurt anyone's feeling.

Charms I agree with Rubysmom. And I signed the petition the day you made the post. Thanks for the info.

I don't think your initial message was offensive at all. I know that it is a touchy subject and that we all feel very strongly about our position on the topic. Even if I wouldn't have agreed with the message, the post simply read as a memo to all those interested. To those that don't agree with the signing of the petition I think that it is the perfect post to inform them of what is going on with their rights and an opportunity to fight the petition.

Charms, I agree with Rubysmom and Kaceyedgar, I did not find your post offensive. I personally could not choose abortion, though if it is not legal I think it would still be performed.

I personally believe that parents should be notified if their child attempts to have an abortion. The parent is responsible for that child in every other way, so why should the child be able to have an invasive medical procedure without parental consent? Just my opinion, but taking away parental rights is not something I could ever support.

As far as partial birth abortion, if anyone ever saw the procedure I don't see how they could say its ok.

Just wanted to say that I wasn't offended at all about your origional post. Just offering a different view on the subject. I'm not one to go around preaching about how I feel about things. I try and stay out of these types of topics. Your post was perfectly fine and if someone is offended by it, they have every right to post their own topic.
