What would you do if you won the lottery?

Scenario. You just brought home 150 million dollars after taxes. What would you do? Who would you do it for?

Me: Since my mother's family is very close, I'd buy a large acreage of land and make a compound wherein my Grandmother's house was "the big house" and there were several "guest" houses.

Most importantly, I'd hire the best golf pro in the world to work with Robby for a year so he could get good enough to go on the golfing circuit.

Oh...and I'd set up one of those jet share thingys so that when we travel we can take Jaru and Lucy and not have to put them in a crate with the luggage.

Oh...and I'd buy my sister-in-law a house. She lives in San Diego and is working on her Ph.D. and is currently priced out of the market. I'd buy her a house close to school and the beach.

I have a few FABULOUS friends I'd do something for as well so they didn't have to worry about money so much.

I would put my grandmother in assisted living for alzheimer patients and make sure she is taken care of

I would pay off my moms house and do what ever renovations or additions she may want

I would but some aside for my daughters future

I would finally get my IVF going

I would by my dad a car (we don't get along so well, but I should do something for him) and I would probably give him some just to do whatever he wanted to.

I would do something special with my close friends

I would pay off our house and then build our dream home.

I would give contributions to the local SPCA

I'd buy some land and probably start my own small animal rescue (a dream of mine)

Buy LH a building of his own for his business so he can stop renting, and of course give him what he needed to get the business to where he wanted.

LH, daughter and I would see the world

Hmmm.... I'm sure there is more just those off the top of my head

I LOVE this question .. there are soooo many possibilities and it is just fun thinking of them.. I would:

1. pay off all our bills .. we would be DEBT free
2. pay off my mom's mortgage
3. buy DH and me the cars we want
4. buy a modest yet NICE home
5. invest so that we will have no worries for the rest of our lives and so that our children don't have to worry about a thing
6. I would buy myself a kick a** wedding set .. lol .. I am such a girly girl and would love an upgrade why not eh?? Or maybe I would get lucky and DH would buy it for me!
7. Travel travel travel .. to all the places I want to see
and last but not least ... I would definitely adopt a child and use some of the money for IF treatments.

Thanks Monica for a great topic

IUI #1 (12/07) - IUI #2 (1/08)- IUI #3 (2/08) - kind of lost and upset right now.
Currently on a break, trying au naturalle (no shots, no meds, nothing but me and DH ). Waiting on the New Year to start treatments again!

love this question

I day dream about this all the time...
First thing I would do is pay for our IVF and then I would send an invitation out to all my close friends and family (on the invitation they would be invited to something really boring like my great grandmothers silver wedding aniversary or something of that nature). All of those who showed up would get a nice check & those who didnt show would get nothing... My mom would get keys to a new house.. Some of it I would invest and start a new business and then I would set up a fund that I would give out to a couple each year to pay for IVF/Adoption if they couldnt afford it. (the interest each year would let me continue doing it every year). This is a wonderful dream..don't wake me...

Monica, great question. How do you come up with all this. Way to go girl, you make me laugh and think about something other than pills and pokes.

I would build a nice big house on an acerage plot and it would have a swimming pool, tennis & basket ball court.
Would hire a tennis & golf pro for dh and myself.
I would want all my family to come and stay with me for atleast a month in a year.
Buy a nice car for my parents.
Travel with my parents, in-laws...
Ofcourse, go shopping

I think, still would be left will lot of money, which I would give for charity specifically for child education and poor homeless.

I'm glad I'm not the only who occasionally dreams about this kind of stuff.

-Of course pay off debts currently owed.
-Buy myself WHATEVER car/SUV I wanted.
-Finish decorating my house with the help of a professional designer.
-Finish landscaping with the help of a professional landscape designer
-Agree with DH to give our parents and siblings an equal amount of cash to use as they please.
-Set money aside for ~A~junior and our retirement
-Travel
-Set up endowments for various personal ventures. I can't speak for DH (he'd have his own list, I'm sure), but for me: I want to totally remodel the Social Work bldg at Tulane (where I'm finishing my PhD); set up scholarships for social work students at Tulane and my alma mater Southern IL University; and help fund Habitat for Humanity and the SPCA.

Oh, and hire a full-time housekeeper/cook, and maybe someone to tend the yard.

But I wouldn't "retire" from my career. I may not work full-time, but I find a lot of satisfaction in my career so I'd have to stay connected to social work/juvenile justice and substance abuse treatment.

~A~
