Unhappy Calling all teachers - Please Help

Hi girls,
as you may know I have quit my job to persue a career in ECE. And I have a report due on tuesday, and my teacher is abbsolutly nuts. She likes to change her mind everytime she speaks. So, my question goes out to all teachers out there please help. I am currently in the middle of running a running record and I am very confused. I tried looking up the answers on the internet but could not find it. So, here is my question, when writing a running record what is the difference between the setting and context?

Thanks, for all of your help.
Mihlya

Hmmm....Well, the setting is obvious, where the story is taking place, but as far as the context, you are looking to see if the student is using context clues in a story to gain better meaning of what's being read. Context is a little more difficult, because it's based more on what the student is infering about their reading based on the things happening in the text that aren't actually told. Do they put things into the correct context?

Basically does the student use the meaning of the story or what's being read in a sentence to correctly decode an unfamiliar word or phrase and make sense out of what they are reading. It's different from the setting, because that information is more concrete.

Hope this helps and that I'm not too far off base here!
