So sad....lost furbaby

I'm so worried and heartsick today, as I have been all week. My cat Henry has been missing since Monday, almost a week. He is 16 years old and has never been out of or away from the house for more than a day or night.

Has anyone with a cat had this experience before? I just don't know what to think. In my heart I feel that he is gone for good, but my head keeps bringing up the possibility that he could return. Not likely after this long. I've posted signs in my neighborhood and check the pound. I've talked to all of my neighbors. I feel so helpless.

He was a gift from DH following a miscarriage. He was my baby and companion! I can't stop crying and feel kind of ridiculous!

Henry is such a cute kitty! I am sorry that he is missing. Losing a pet is horrible. My Jake got out a few months ago and was lost for 2 hours. I was hysterical. My cats are indoor cats and he snuck by unnoticed when I opened the front door. Dh was running around the neighborhood while I insisted in staying home in case he came back. The little brat walks out from under this huge spruce tree in the neighbors yard toward me like nothing happened.

I hope you find Henry soon.

I hope you find Henry soon, too! I know when pets go missing it can be heartbreaking. You always keep your eyes peeled and if you see anything that might be your pet, you can't do anything but stop and see. Hoping Henry comes home soon!

I hope your Henry comes back soon! It's really hard, particularly with the significance you said he has.

I'm so sorry that Henry has misplaced himself. I had to put my kitty, Minnie, to sleep earlier this year because she was riddled with cancer and couldn't eat and my very kind vet told me in the nicest possible way that it was the right thing to do. But it still makes me cry, and it has been almost six months.

I hope Henry has just been on a little walk-about and that he finds his way home. My good friend, Ann, had a cat leave for months, but he finally found his way home. So don't give up hope.

Kathryn.

Oh dear, I do hope that Henry finds his way home again. My two kitties are also indoor cats and the couple of times they've managed to get out had me frantic.

I'm assuming you've searched the house carefully. I'd hate to think it happened, but given how old he is he might have crawled into the back of a closet or somewhere like that to go off to kitty heaven. I do hope not and that he comes home to you soon.

I am so sorry about your little kitty. I once had a kitty that was 14 and he got out one day and never came back. I think he was sick and wanted to go to heaven. They say sometimes kitties like to find a comfortable, private place to lay their heads when they are old. I am sure wherever Henry is he is happy and if he can he will come back to you. I know how dear our pets are to us all. I am praying for him.

Thank you ladies for your kind words and thoughts. You have definitely made me feel better.

I have heard that cats have a knack for wandering off when they know it's their time to go. I just wish I knew for sure. Because of his age, I also knew that our time left together was becoming limited, though he appeared in good health and character.

I always assumed I'd have to make that dreadful decision about putting him down or not. Hard as that may be, at least I would have known his fate. I think I could be at peace with that, but not with the unknown. I can't stand the thought that first of all he may be suffering (or had been), or that he is residing with someone other than us!

I'm keeping my eyes and ears peeled.........just in case!

One of my friend's cats wondered off and was gone for over a week. They assumed he was dead, but he wondered on home. He was severely dehydrated and ill. He came out of it, but still has some lingering side effects like blindness. I hope your Henry makes it home.
