New Job and this infertility baggage
Hi everyone!
I am looking for some help! I was just offered a new, fantastic job that I am super excited about! However, my DH and I have done only one unsuccessful IUI and I don't really know how to start a new job requesting time off already! Does anyone have any advice? I start on Dec. 10...and if everything happens on the days it should (which NEVER happens as precisely as I would like it too!) Day 3 would be Dec. 8 (Saturday), Day 11 would be Dec. 16 (Sunday), and then the IUI on Dec. 17. If everything falls on these days, I would only need a few hours off on Dec. 17. But like I said, the chances are this are slim to none. Should we hold off a few months? Do managers look badly on new staff that time off immediately? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thank you!

If it was me, I would go to my manager and explain everything to them. Some managers would be understanding, some would be upset. I guess it would just depend on what kind of manager this person is.

i would be cafeful about what i said if i were you.
i just started a new job too. my boss was trying to get to know me (m his receptionist) and he asked if i had kids, and when i said we were working on it, he proceded to say that we shouldnt be trying because we're so young and more than half of marriages end in divorce, etc, etc... basically he was butting into my life (and dh was very upset when he found out about this) he also said when he found out about the tattoo dedicated to my DH (we met at a show so i got a line from a song by the artist tattooed on my back) he told me it was a mistake. hopefully you have a more understanding boss than i do. if i end up doing any treatments im going to wait until ive been there 6 months, but after 6 months, i get 17 days of PTO a year. i wish you much more luck at your new job then i have had at mine so fire.

I would suggest talking to other employees about how days off, coming in late, or leaving early is handled. That way you know what is coming when you approach your boss.

In my opinion, as a supervisor and having been in your situation before, I would hold off on any explanations of treatment or plans to become pregnant for now. Do you have a probationary period? Some employers look at a new employee trying to get pregnant as a loss in the sense that you will have to take time off for appointments and such and then they will have to hire/ find someone to fill your spot until you come back/if you come back. On the same note, if you explain you will need time off for trying to get pregnant, it will look like a pattern to come. Just a thought.
I would just clearly state that I have some upcoming medical appointments that I have had for some time now, that I must take some time off for. Explain that the appointments were made before you were hired. You do not have to explain anything more than that. To ease the mind of your new boss, offer a note from the doctor explaining you had an appointment on such and such date and time. It's none of their business what your appointments are for. Hope that helps.

I agree with T2J. Great advice! I know the saying "honesty is the best policy", but the basics, like having appointments made before the hire date, is enough. Best of Luck!
T2J love the profile pic!
