I have just had a terrible week! Last week on Wednesday my cat (Cajun) went outside. Well, I didn't see him on Thursday at all and by Friday morning I was getting worried when I still didn't see him. When dh got off work my kitty had found his way to the back door and just sat meowing at dh. So he took him inside and found that he couldn't/wouldn't walk. Long story short, I had been trying to find a new vet cuz I didn't like my old one and y'all have to know how hard it is to find a vet to look at an injured cat on a friday evening! I finally found one who asked for Cajun to stay overnight so he could look at him after all his appointments. So Cajun stayed and I picked him up on Saturday. He had stitches in one leg. When I got him home (mind you I live 1 1/2 hours from this vet's office cuz I live in the middle of nowhere with nothing around....) I took him out of his cage and he immediately layed down and I could tell there was something wrong with his hip on the opposite leg as the stitches were on. So I had to wait until Monday (all the while noticing that his hip was looking worse and worse and he was walking at an angle). I took him back to the vet monday and found that he had a displaced hip (DUH!). So he had to have surgery for that to put it back into place and he is now all taped up in a sling to keep that in place on one leg and stitched up in the other leg. The whole ordeal cost us about $400 when you add in the gas of driving that far 4 times.
Now he is jumping around and trying to get his leg out of the sling. He wants to go outside (he will ONLY potty outside. Just won't do it inside unless he is left with no other choice). Has anyone had a cat with a dislocated hip? I am worried about his jumping and playfullness and that he might pop it back out! I can't just leave him in a cage all day and night so I put him in a spare bathroom that has very little shelving or anything for him to jump on, but he tries to get out of there! He's just nuts! ![]()

Oh no. I am sorry Stephanie. My kitty has not had any major injuries, thank goodness but did they give Cajun any sedatives. I know that they sometimes will do that to calm kittys down so that they can get rest and heal. Well keep us updated and I hope your kitty heals fast.

Oh Stephanie, I'm so sorry. It sounds like the best thing for Cajun would be to leave him in the room with nothing to jump on. Our dog used to jump on the furniture. He was old and had a bad back. We had to put him down on Monday after he slipped a disk and just couldn't recover.
I think he jumped on the couch while we weren't home and slipped the disk. I hope your sweet kitty gets better soon. ![]()

What a time for the cats of us ladies here on FF. My kitty accidently jumped into a pot of boiling water on monday. He's fine but he too has a cast type thing on that he HATES! I recommend asking your Vet about giving him sedatives. I wasn't keen on doing it to my little one,but when it came down to it, it was the best choice as he was acting like a crazy man since it happened. We give him a pill a night and he sleeps most of the day and night away but I know it's better and he'll heal faster. (He has to be in this cast for two weeks I guess....since he had some pretty bad burns on his paw.
) Hope Cajun is feeling better soon!!! I feel your pain!! And his too!!

Thanks everyone. As soon as I get off work I am going to call and see if I can get him something.
Here are some pictures of him. The first one is a pic of both of his bum legs. The dislocated hip on top and the stitched leg on bottom. The second is him in a cage I bought that he proceeded to jump out of immediately after returning home from the vet's office. And the third one is one from last weekend before he had to take him back to the vet for his hip. ![]() ![]() ![]()

I hope the injured kitties heal fast, and lovingwife, I'm sorry for your loss.
Angel, I don't think cats would admit to doing anything "accidentally". He was jumping into the kitty pool on purpose, and blames you for making it too hot. |

LOL Dude! My MIL told me to feed him more because clearly he's thinking our supper is his supper now a days! LOL

lovingwife....I am so sorry about your pooch. My dog is getting terribly old and I am simply counting the days that she remains with us. I've never had to put down an animal before and I hate to think about it!
It always makes me laugh how my kitty loves to sit on the edge of the tub while I take a bath and nose around in the kitchen when the water is running, but he screams when I give him a bath of his own! Kitties certainly have a mind of their own....and dude is right-he probably was thinking that you made it too hot for him!

LOL probably...at least he's not holding it against me. He's being very snuggly lately especially now as he uses me for his personal cushion and I want a coffee. But I must never move a sleeping cat...learned that from Jencat's husband and my dh agrees with it. lol. They rule the roost....for the time being I suppose. lol
Lovingwife, I'm sorry for the loss of your beloved pet! It's never easy. ![]()
