Congrats! I have Metformin in the cabinet at home...hate the side effects so I haven't taken it. You've given me a push in the right direction. I haven't done much, but haven't ever been pregnant, haven't had periods for months at a time & just confirmed yesterday that my insurance offers no coverage at all on infertility.

Hello. I am brand new to the forum. Background: DH and I have been TTC since 2006, no luck. We're both 25. I started seeing RE last month. Got HCG trigger to Ov. Ov'd fine but no baby luck. Had HSG test yesterday. Perfect, no pain even!
On Clomid, metformin, and synthroid. Dx with PCOS and hypothyroid. Never been pregnant, always have long cycles (other than when on BC). 40+ days between. Took BC from age 15 to 23. Wasted a ton of time with OBGYN last year. Did 3 rounds of clomid unsupervised by OB, with no luck of course last year.DH had sperm check last year by OB and it came back borderline normal, 20 million, etc. Haven't retested yet, but RE was able to see swimmers in CM! I AM VERY INTERESTED IN THE METFORMIN 1500 METHOD. Could you please provide me with more information on that? How did you know to go to it? How should I approach my doctor with this on Monday when I go in for my next U/S before Ov? Thanks! Jen |

Hey,
I too am over weight & on Metiformin to lose it (i have insulin resistance) i am on 500mg x 3 tablets a night right after dinner- i lost 3kgs the first week on it & that was x1 500mg tablet a night, i then lost another kg when i went up to two tablets & another kg when up to three but have since stopped losing weight ![]() Not sure if you have seen my other thread but i just bought a book called "the fertility diet" its pritty much the same as the low GI diet book but the fertility one says you should have x1 glass of full fat milk a day to help ovulation & 2 half cups of ice cream a week. Also, soft drink (sodas, fuzzy drinks- coke, fanta ect) stop ovulation! I didnt know this, i knew soft drinks weren't good for you but didnt realise they have such a impact! I have already started doing the milk & no more soft drink, i am hoping it will help- i really recomend people read the book. ![]() I am wondering if i need to up my metaformin too, the doctor said it was ment to regulate my period but it hasn't i am on day 47 of this cycle- i am due to start clomid when my next cycle starts. Heres hoping my bad/ sad mood today is my coming (got a this morning)

All I did to get metfomin was go to the Dr and tell them that I heard metformin could help with PCOS symptoms and I got a RX for it. I also have wasted time with my OB taking Femara unsupervised.

Oh God, I can totally relate to this...At eighteen my periods had all but stopped. At that time in my life I was hovering around 200lbs. A laparoscopy showed my ovarys were crystalized and my diagnosis was PCOS due to being overweight. Fast forward to my first marriage age twenty-seven and desperately wanting a child. By this time my weight had skyrocketed to 268lbs and I was miserable. So was my marriage but I just didn't realize it. I went to my doctor looking for a quick fix and she prescribed me both diet pills and what is now known today as Alli. I only managed to lose 20lbs on those drugs and had regained it in no time after stopping. During that time I discovered my husband had gotten another woman pregnant and our marriage was over. I was so devastated that I was dealing with infertility and health issues and instead of standing by my side and helping me work through the issues, chose to have his baby with someone else. For the first time in years I was free to do what I wanted and live my life how I wanted and I started focusing on me. It took me just about a year (ten months) but I managed to lose 110lbs through diet and excersise and low and behold my periods came back like clockwork. I could predict down to the time of day I would start menstruating...When I married my second husband Shane, the love of my life we started trying for kids right away and I found that I got pregnant like lightening...only now I had Antiphospholipid Antibody Syndrome and miscarried time and time again. I guess what I'm getting at is that if this is the focus of your life, your health and fertility, you CAN overcome the obstacles and have your baby. It's never easy but I think that's why women like us make such good mommies, because we've known the heartache and struggle of infertility and have done everything we can to OVERCOME THE ODDS. My heart goes out to you, the best of luck in your journey....

Riss, My cycles have always been normal even when I do not ovulate. Metformin is suppose to help regulate menstral cycles and bring on cycles for women that do not have a period on thier own. I am trying to get my sister to go to the Dr to get metfomin. She has been diagnosed with PCOS and doesn't have periods at all. She is also isulin resistant.

Hey Ladies...
This is my first post but so far I really like this website. I also have PCOS and right now I weigh 220. I'm on 1500 mg of Metformin. I notice that with the Met, it's "all or nothing" in a way, as far as weight loss. It seems like when I make the effort and do my Weight Watchers, I do beautifully. However, when I don't "meet the Met halfway", and I eat really badly, I just gain weight. It's pretty obvious, but yes, I do notice on the met that the weight comes off quicker than it would without. I started Clomid just today so we'll see how it all goes ! I want a baby!![]()

I too am considered overweight. I have lost a total of 36lbs. I still have a little bit to go (maybe about 20 more or so). I take 1 500MG tablet of Metformin 3 times a day. I, however, have always had a pretty regular period since the age of 12. Even while I was on BC it stayed regular when I stopped taking BC 4 years ago.
My DH and I have been together for 6 years and married for 4 of them. We have been TTC for at least 3 years and 2 of them were filled with doctors visits 2 times a month including the IUI's and Clomid, Femara, and the Metformin. About 5 months ago I was diagnosed with PCOS. Not through the tests taken as those came back negative, but by a specialist in that type of infertility. My DH said the other day, "Don't get me wrong, I want to see your belly grow, and feel it kicking in your tummy. I want us to bring a kid into this world that bears our name, but if we have to adopt I am fine with that. We are in this together." I know I have found the right man for me, but it really ticks me off that I can't give him a child that we both really want. He hides his feelings really well when we were actively going to the doc. 2+ times a month, all the while I was all over the place because the tests kept coming back negative and it just destroyed me for a while. We have since then stopped doing all the doctors appts. We haven't given up but we aren't preventing things from happening either. We are looking towards adopting in the future. I wish all you ladies the best of luck on your tests to come! |
