Question Medication and BFP with overweight

Hello all. I am currently overweight and TTC, and wondering what medicines other women took, the month they got their BFP. I need some more ammunition before I go back to my RE. DH and I have been tested, and we are both fine... Just hormones are off with me. I am currently taking a month off, weighing the decision of losing weight before we go back to the RE. What are your views on weight loss and infertility?

Questions to answer in reply:
1. What medical issues were you dealing with pre-BFP?

2. What medications did you take to get BFP and on what Cycle Days?

3. Did you lose weight before getting pregnant? If so, what was your start weight, and your end weight? (If you're not comfortable with posting weights, just pounds lost will work too)

4. What Cycle Day did you get your BFP?

Thank you all!

I also have PCOS and possibly thyroid issues as well as being overweight.

I never responded to Clomid.

What finally worked for me was using the Follistim injectables (I started on day 3-4 of my cycle and just took the doses that the Dr. would tell me to take...as he'd do ultrasounds and see how I was responding every couple of days and then take the ovidrel shot when I was ready to ovulate). I also took 1500mg timed released Metformin every evening as well as a prenatal vitamin.

I was about 265-270lbs during my last couple cycles and I'm 5'8.

After my two pregnancy's/miscarriages I contemplated taking a year off to try and loose some weight.

But I sucked it up and tried one more time...and it was again a , this time with twins. We lost one of the twins early (vanishing twin) but we're currently 26 weeks pregnant with a precious little boy.

I don't regret TTC and conceiveing while being overweight. I've struggled with weight all my life. I wasn't willing to put off TTC any longer, just to loose weight...when the injectables could help give me the exact hormones I needed to finally get my ovaries to work.

I love being pregnant and love my growing baby belly. Infact I'm feeling more womanly and sexier than ever and proud of my body...which I haven't felt for over 10 years now.

My Dr. has never mentioned ANY concerns regarding my weight and the baby or pregnancy. So far all my insuline levels have been perfect as well.(which I was a little afraid of when they took me off the metformin....but I wasn't put on in for Diabetes...just to help me get pregnant).

I do plan on trying to loose weight after the baby comes. But now (with this pregnancy) my life is feeling more and more complete and I feel like life is really just begining for me.

I say...don't put it off...go for it now...you have the rest of your life to try and loose weight...and you can try and start loosing weight now...by just eating healthier and drinking lots of water and starting a light exercize routine.

It's much easier to watch what your eating when your TTC or pregnant...because it's not just you that your feeding...you try and make every bite count...and as healthy as possible.

Cheers to previous post. I think it would be a major mistake for me to have waited until I took off the "right amount" of weight. it's like saying that you can't have kids until you are finanically secure...that can mean a lot of things!

I was not overweight until after having baby #1 where I developed hypothryroidism and had some other things to contend with. I currently take armour thyroid. Please see my signature for details on meds. I typically took my clomid from days 5-9. I did try once from 3-7. I don't recall the femara protocol.

Good luck,
liv

Getting pregnant while overweight is definitely not impossible. And being overweight while pregnant is not necessarily detrimental to your baby.

I have both PCOS and hypothyroid and have been able to get pregnant twice despite being pretty overweight.

Since I started taking Metformin (1500mg) I've been able to drop about 25lb just by being more aware of what I'm eating and making some easy substitutions (like whole grain bread instead of white, or the 100-calorie packs for snacks instead of a piece of chocolate). I know I should, but I am just not motivated to exercise. I am also currently on 100mcg of Synthroid, but was only at 75mcg before getting pregnant.

With my first pregnancy, unfortuntely ectopic, I took 100mg of Clomid on CD 3-7 and was monitored with ultrasounds to check my follicle growth and bloodword to check my hormone levels. With this current pregnancy, I took the same Clomid dosage on the same days, then 75iu of Follistim CD 8-12, 50iu CD 13, and then a trigger shot on CD 14. I had the same monitoring as before. I got my first positive hpt on CD 26.

At one point my doctor suggested taking some time off to lose weight but I just couldn't. I knew how long it would take me to get down to a "normal" weight and there was no way I was going to wait that long to have a baby. So far, my weight hasn't impacted my pregnancy one bit and I don't regret for one second not taking time off.

Update!

Hey everyone,
Since my last post to this thread I have found a Doctor in the same practice that is willing to help me. He said in so many words he didn't know what the other Doctors problem was with me. I am fine weight wise and was fine a year earlier when I saw the first Doctor. He said the other Doctor was right that It may be a little harder for overweight women to get pregnant but not impossible and that he couldn't do an IVF on a woman 300 lbs. I am about 180 plus or minus a few pounds. He told me not to lose any weight just to concentrate on being healthy.
