obesity and men's fertility?

I'm looking for information on how a man's obesity can affect his fertility. Dh has been dx with azoospermia / testicular failure / idiopathic male factor. He has hypothyroid and is about 80 pounds overweight. We aren't too keen on pursuing ivf (though we are considering it), but I wanted to rule out if his losing weight might be the "unexplained" factor.

I've only found very vague discussion on this subject when I google it. Anyone with any insights?

Thanks!

It seems like there is more info on a woman's fertility and obesity to me.

I am wondering if the cause of the obesity isn't more of the problem than the obesity itself. Is your DH being managed for the low thyroid? Regulating the thyroid may assist in weight loss. Also diabetes can complicate fertility and is linked to obesity.

I hope you find your answer. It is very hard for those of us who have no cause for the azoo. My DH had a high fever as a toddler but no other reason that we know of. Genetic testing is next on the agenda for us.

SFBaygirl - thanks for your response. If I can't get a response here, I wonder where can I get it? Our docs don't seem to think there's a connection, but it still nags at me that there is.

Dh is being managed for the thyroid, and he just started taking meds to assist with the weightloss as well. He had high blood pressure and cholesterol, but thankfully not diabetes (I say "had" bc his numbers have been going down). I know if he had let it continue unchecked, he would've developed that, too, esp since it runs in his family.

We're meeting with a male factor specialist in 6 weeks. If she doesn't think it's a factor, I'll trust that it isn't. (And I hope she can recommend a caring RE, bc I am NOT going back to the fool from Monday.)
