Well, welcome to the forums! I am so sorry for you situation but the first question is: Do you have an RE (reproductive endocrinologist) that could assist you? That would be a good place to start - they could possibly run tests and hopefully give you some peace of mind and steer you to where you need to go.

Also, check with you local library concerning some of the issues that you are experiencing, and the web. There is such a wealth of knowledge at your fingertips.

Let us know how it goes!

Hi....I was having irregular periods when i came off birth control and went to my gyno and she did some test come to find out I have PCOS. Maybe you should look into the symtoms of PCOS and see if you have any I had most of them. The PCOS makes it difficult to ovulate on your own but after some treatments of Provera and Clomid I am having my periods on my own now but still not pregnant. I am 4 days late now but I am not getting my hopes up yet.

It's wonderful that you're asking this question -- good for you! Often women find themselve too terrified to even inquire, and take the "I'll just wait and see" route -- which can last indefinitely, I'm afraid.

The others are right to steer you toward a physician. Start with your regular gynecologist -- at this point, rather than leaping into "how to have a baby," you need to do some basic investigation of why you're body isn't functioning properly. And not having a period for 3 years, if you're an adult, is improper functioning.

Amenorrhea, or lack of menstruation, can result from a number of causes, some of which are treatable if found in time. At this point, just a few basic diagnostic tests (via blood draws) can give you an idea of what the problem may be.

Welcome to the board!

First and foremost- you should see a doctor and get started on progesterone to have a period. Long periods of nothing can actually increase your risk for uterine and cervical cancers- so you should bleed at least once or twice a year to clean things out.

Once you have a good period- there are plenty of things that you can do to get things working again and hopefully get prego. I would recommend skipping the gyn and going straight to an RE. Most likely they will run some tests to see if you have PCOS or something else. If it's PCOs they will put you on an insulin drug- like metformin, and then followed up with clomid a few months later.

Getting a good bleed and a proper diagnosis is the first and most important step though.

Good luck!

same here

This is my first time on this website too. A friend at work suggested the site.

I had a normal cycle before I got on birth control at 17 because of heavy periods and cramping. I using some form of the pill till I was 24. In Jan 04, I started using Depo- Provera and got off of it in Jan 05 because of swelling and weight gain (60 lbs). While on the pill, I had a normal cycle every month and on Depo a light period for a week before my next shot. Now that I stop taking a form of birth control no cycle.

In Oct 05, I started seeing a ob/gyn for the lack of a cycle. It was my family doctor that put me on the shot and didn't seem concern that I wasn't have a period in 10 months. The ob/gyn started me on 21 days of estrogen, then 7 days of progesterone and we waited 14 days for a cycle. I did this for 3 months.... nothing. I was a hormoral case with all the crying through the whole thing. I am surprise my husband put up with me. The third month I had a little shedding, so the ob/gyn put me on birth control... nothing after the 21 days... so then, progesterone... nothing. We did this cycle of hormores for about 7 months with no cycle.

Last month, I had an HSG done. It was horrible! I don't wish that on anyone. I didn't do well at all. (I also have vestibulitis which made it worst.)My co-worker had only a little discomfort. The test was normal.

I then had a full blood panel done. My FSH levels was the lowest my ob/gyn had seem. All other levels were within normal range. So, she referred me to a RE. We have our first appt. July 13. I am a little nervous about the whole thing.

Question TTC for 5 yrs

OK .. this is hard for me as I am sure it hard for countless others. We have been TTC for 5 yrs now. We have both been tested and there is no reason the Dr's can see why we shouldnt be pregnant already. I had an hsg done (it was horrid and it hurt) and I got pregnant right after but lost the baby at 8 weeks. This was a little over 3 yrs ago.

After that my ob/gyn put me on clomid but failed to mention that I needed to come in monthly for ultrasounds, I guess she was to busy with her own pregnancy. Either way, another Dr took my case when she went on leave and she scheduled me right away for an ultrasound .. turns out that it wasnt working at all and I was almost at the max dosage. I decided to stop right there. My faith in Dr's was really shattered .. I was emotional and stressed .. not the way things should be done. So here I am not, just taking the wait and see route. My husband says we did it once we can do it again. I am thinking about going back to the Dr (a different Dr this time) and seeing what they say. Any advice out there? Questions I can ask that I maybe havent thought of?? Any help/advice would be good.
Thank you so much!

Hello Ladies

I started on progesterone Wed. and will be using 100mg Clomid as well, and my new RE is actually doing an US to see if the Clomid is working. My old RE never did that.
