We have our first appt. with a RE soon...

This is my first time on this website. A friend at work suggested the site. I have an appt soon with a RE and I was wondering if anyone had some advice about the appt. or questions that I should ask that I don't know.

This is my story:

I had a normal cycle before I got on birth control at 17 because of heavy periods and cramping. I using some form of the pill till I was 24. In Jan 04, I started using Depo- Provera and got off of it in Jan 05 because of swelling and weight gain (60 lbs). While on the pill, I had a normal cycle every month and on Depo a light period for a week before my next shot. Now that I stop taking a form of birth control no cycle.

In Oct 05, I started seeing a ob/gyn for the lack of a cycle. It was my family doctor that put me on the shot and didn't seem concern that I wasn't have a period in 10 months. The ob/gyn started me on 21 days of estrogen, then 7 days of progesterone and we waited 14 days for a cycle. I did this for 3 months.... nothing. I was a hormoral case with all the crying through the whole thing. I am surprise my husband put up with me. The third month I had a little shedding, so the ob/gyn put me on birth control... nothing after the 21 days... so then, progesterone... nothing. We did this cycle of hormores for about 7 months with no cycle.

I almost forgot... some time along the way there were US and Sonograms of my tubes and uterus. Everything was normal. We even saw my eggs, just hanging doing nothing. When my husband saw my eggs he responsed "there's our kids". We didn;t know then what we know now.

Last month, I had an HSG done. It was horrible! I don't wish that on anyone. I didn't do well at all. (I also have vestibulitis which made it worst.)My co-worker had only a little discomfort. The test was normal.

I then had a full blood panel done. My FSH levels was the lowest my ob/gyn had seem. All other levels were within normal range. So, she referred me to a RE. We have our first appt. July 13. I am a little nervous about the whole thing.

Don't be nervous. Going to an RE is the best thing you can do for yourself, to get your "parts" back to working correctly. I will caution you, however, that if your doctor does not seem to be aggressively trying to figure out why your body isn't behaving normally, then switch doctors. Some RE's like to think that you're young, so there's no rush, or if you're overweight, you might run into doctors like I did, who don't want to help you get pregnant because they figure your genes are not worth passing along. But there are definitely doctors out there that are willing and able to help. Oh, and don't let them try to convince you that "the only thing that will work is IVF". By all means, if you have the money or good insurance to cover it, and you don't want to wait and see what's actually wrong, you can do that, but I wouldn't recommend it. The main reason I wouldn't is because the next baby you want to get pregnant with, you'll still have the same problem. And you still haven't "fixed" your body, which could cause more problems down the line.

Good luck!

Thank you for your advice. We had to change the date of my consult with the RE to July 27. I am having a hysteroscopy on the 12th of July.
