Injectibles are not as scary as it might sound. I was really nervous about giving myself shots, but the Follistim pen I used has the tiniest needles and I didn't feel a thing. Apparently the side effects are less than with Clomid, but I can't say for sure if that was true for me since the only round of injections I have done was immediately following 5 days of Clomid.

Are you also doing IUI with the injections? I can't see why your doc would tell you injections were the step before IVF unless you were also doing IUI. Whatever he says, don't let him pressure you into anything you're not comfortable with.. get a 2nd opinion or even a 3rd if you're still not happy with what you're being told.

As far as getting your details in, it's all done with your signature which it looks like you have already. You just have to type in the information as you want it.

thanks - feels really good to have someone answer!

I dont think i am doing IUI because my problem is ovulating - so isnt this what the injections should sort out?

Im going to the hospital next wednesday - so hopefully so questions will be answered then!

Thanks again

Do you know if the injectables are usually successfull in women like me?

Has your DH really not had a semen analysis done? Have you had an HSG? Those are two tests I would definitely want to have done before pumping myself up with the injection drugs. You can ovulate everyday all month long, but if your tubes aren't open and his swimmers aren't good, it still won't work.

As far as advice for taking the shots, I had my DH do it. I think I could do it if I HAD to, but he had no issues with it at all and certainly didn't have to psych himself up before each shot like I would have had to. Just make sure you're clear on your instructions and keep asking the nurse questions until you're certain you know what to do. Then, just follow those instructions. There aren't a lot of tips for the subcutaneous shots. The needles are so tiny that honestly, sometimes you'll hardly feel them. There were times that I felt it, depending on where you stick the needle, but even that hurt less than having blood drawn. I did find that injecting into the side of my thigh hurt a lot more than injecting into my stomach.

I now see that you've been diagnosed with PCOS. Are you seeing an OB or an RE? If you're only seeing an OB, I highly recommend switching to an RE if your insurance will cover it. PCOS is not a reproductive disorder, it's a metabolic/endocrine disorder with reproductive impacts and OBs are usually just not as effective in treating it.

I second the advise to get an SA done for your husband and an HSG done for you. The OB I was with briefly before switching to my RE insisted that an HSG be done before he would even consider putting me on Clomid.

me too

I just found out that "they" think that I have PCOS also. We haven't done the SA or the HSG yet, but are planning on doing so. The doc offered to do a round of clomid first to see if that would jump start anything, but if it doesn't work the first time the next step would be another round of clomid with monitoring and then injections. Beyond that I'm not sure on what I'd be comfortable with yet.

Good Luck! I hope that things work out easier than expected. I believe that miricles happen every day and things happen when the time is "right."

Me - 26
DH - 23
Dogs - Annabelle - 3, Zeeke, 2.5

9/10/08 - RE appointment, Labs resulted in PCOS possiblity

shots

Can anyone tell me a common script name is for injections. I just looked up Clomid and there is a generic script of that so I was gunna look up injection options too.

I'm not sure the injectibles have generics. I was prescribed Follistim and that is exactly what I got even though I usually get generics if they are available.
