Question Help understanding LH surge?

Hello all. I'm new to this forum arena, so please bear with me. My husband and I have been TTC for two years. I just started using an OPK 4 days ago (day 9 of cycle) expecting to get a negative reading for the first few days... The test turned difinitively positive, and has been doing so every day since. Is it possible to have such an extended LH surge? If so, when will/did ovulation actually occur? From what I've read, the LH surge is only supposed to last 12-24 hours... I have been reluctant to seek medical intervention to conceive, but am wondering if this LH surge anomoly is something that I should consult a fertility dr about?
Any input would be greatly appreciated!!

Hey Hailey, I don't have a great answer for you since I definitely don't have that problem, but I've heard that sometimes younger women can have positive OPKs for several days, and that can also happen if you have PCOS. Just be sure to keep BDing on those days!

Hailey98- I have kind of the same situation. I wasnt paying attention when I bought HPT at the store last weekend. Actually I thought I was buying a HPT, but I really bought a ovulation test kit. So for a few days I was testing witht the ovulation sticks and they were coming out positive. Once I realized I stopped using them, but now I am wondering I am suppose to starting AF this weekend (6/20) why were the ovulation sticks still coming out positive. I also thought they would appear positive for the 12 - 24 hour period, but once you ovulated then it would go away. Anyways, I am so lost right now.

beady, I'm sorry if you already know this, but I figured since you were trying to buy HPTs instead of OPKs, there's a chance that you don't know that they work differently. Where HPTs are positive if you get any line at all - no matter how faint - OPKs are only positive if your test line is at least as dark as your control line. Because your body almost always produces LH, you will almost always get a second line on your OPK - the darkness of it is what differentiates a positive from a negative test though.

Again, I'm sorry if you already knew this...
