I make all of Reid's baby food too and I use the Cuisinart and blender depending on what's more convenient! For the peas, try adding a little purified water or leftover cooking liquid from steaming them and it should improve the consistency. They are a big hit at our house!
I use the Baby Cubes like Cat mentioned and they are FANTASTIC! They thaw out great and leave no freezer burned smell or anything. Plus, they are BPA free. When I wash them, I just throw them in the sterilizer to make sure they are totally sanitary. I bought six sets and my fridge and freezer are packed. The fruits are so gorgeous right now that I'm freezing a lot of them for winter.
My favorite baby food cookbook is Petit Appetit except that their recipes call for cooking everything. I don't cook some things depending on ripeness. Also for constipation, try pureeing mango (Champagne variety, all yellow, not the green/red variety) with papaya. So tasty and keeps Reid from getting constipated!
It is so fun and gratifying to make your own food, I really hope you try it! Your LO will love you for it too. The difference in color and taste between jarred peas and fresh peas is amazing.
