AMKD: Did you say at one time that you were a family nurse practitioner? If so, can you tell me what kind of schooling you did to get where you were?
When Joshie starts school, I really want to go finish up my bachelor's degree, then a masters; I thought I might like to teach LPN clinicals...how to give shots, insert catheters, feed, peri-care, make beds...stuff like that. However, one of my really good nurse friends is an NP and she has flex hours and I see her for my thyroid and blood pressure/migraine meds. Next time I see her I plan to ask her if she loves what she does; she seems to. Anyway, I was just curious what all you had to go through? Blessings, Michelle

Did you go to an actual college...I thought I could get my BSN through an online program and Univ. of Phoenix is who I've been corresponding with and I think they have a Master's program too. I've been a licensed nurse for 16 years now (I feel SO old) and on disability and work PRN, but I don't want to be on disability forever.
If I was to go to school to be something like an NP, and I want to see only adult or elderly patients, would I still have to do a pediatric rotation? Thanks so much for responding btw! Do you mind if I PM you? Blessings, Michelle

Yes, I went to an actual college for all of my degrees. For my Masters, I went through a Family Nurse Practitoner program, which is why I took pediatric courses. If you went through an adult program, you wouldn't take them.

AMKD: I had a long talk with my dh; we listed the pros and cons of me going back to school...ultimately, we have more pros than cons right now, the only thing really holding us back is our finances...however, the financial aid people at Univ. of Phoenix are going to tell me all my options tomorrow morning, then help me apply for some aid just to see what I can get or qualify for. The classes are pretty high: $975/class. However, if I had to attend an actual college, I would have to drive 2 hours one way every day and I simply cannot do that.
Today another nursing home hired me to work 1 weekend a month as an RN on the evening shift; she is giving me the $20/hr. I asked for plus there is a $.50/hr. differential for that shift. All that money I get I plan to put towards my schooling too. It won't be much, but any little bit will help. The BSN program is 17 months through them and they do have a Master's program too and she said it was shorter but I forgot to ask her the actual length. Each class is 6 weeks long, which sounds pretty short to me; and I've heard it is hard but that particular school plies you with academic advisors, counselors, tutors, etc. They want you to do good and pass your classes. My SIL is attending their Business Administration program right now for her bachelor's. I didn't know that until last night. She works full time but only makes $12/hr. as a bookkeeper; she says if she can do it, then I can do it. I hope she is right. Thank you so much for listening to me and helping me out! Btw, are you going to have a gender scan done of your bean? Do you want a little girl now to go with Paulie? That would be too cute! Blessings, Michelle
