Formula Choices/Weaning

I am about to start weaning my little one and wanted to know what formulas you are happy with. My ped. said whatever I want is fine. But G is now 7 months (time flies) and has never even been supplemented with formula so I guess it will be trial and error for reactions. I have a hard time getting him to take bottles or even breastfeed right now, he likes to keep busy and he plays with his cup more than drink from it so I am trying to find the best solution.

Also any tips while weaning would be greatly appreciated. Again I consulted an expert to get very few guidelines. I went to a lactation consultant that said every 4 days cut out a feeding. Really that cut and dry nothing more. I am just worried there is something much bigger I am missing. Thanks!

Alex is on Similac Advanced... something that we started him on when he was about 6 weeks old and now that's all he will take...
if (when) i have to do it again, i would buy cheapest formula available... they all have same basic ingredients, so why pay more for something that is not any better?

Thanks Robin, that's what my ped. said if he doesn't have any allergies or issues go with whatever they are pretty much the same.

It's really hard and sad to ween....
So I'm sorry, and are you sure you are ready?

If so, I would start with one feeding, we started with the before bed feeding, and I would mix Breastmilk if you have any extra (if not, DON'T PUMP), and formula 1/2 and 1/2 for about 3 nights, and then ONLY formula. I would wait inbetween about a week, but I'm sure each woman is different, it took me about that long to dry up, and each feeding brought something special to me??? Anyway ~ If you don't have extra pumped milk, pick a feeding and only offer the formula, if he refuses, don't give in, put him in his crib, and if he cries, which he will, pick him up and try again. It's going to be tough, so good luck, and I hope that you don't get too sad!
We're here if you do!
Hugs!

We started with Similac Advance only because that is what they gave us samples of in the hospital - but I agree that they are all pretty much the same, so start with the easiest one first.

Although, I have heard that Nestle Good Start is the closest to breast milk with those comfort proteins and all.

Hope that didn't confuse the situation!

Thanks for all of the info and I am in a situation where his weaning leads to so many other things. My DH has been transferred in his job and we will have to move to Kansas. In doing that I lose my fertility benefits and the most amazing RE so we have decided to try again before leaving. I had my first consult today and will try weaning for the next month and start IUI's in September/October and hopefully be on my way to Kansas +1!

We used the infamil lipil here. He has been on it from day one only b/c that is what they gave him in the hospital. He didn't have a problem with it so I was like why fix what isn't broke. He started Infamil Lipil next step at about 9 months and now that he is a year we are going to start transitioning to whole milk (when he gets to feeling better). Good luck and I hope y'all have a smooth transition.

How long before you have to leave for Kansas and loose your benefits?

Good luck working on baby number 2. That would be wonderful timing to add another one to the family just before your benefits run out.

My only concern is if this is just a one shot try at baby number 2. Will you be dissapointed if it doesn't work out and you have also cut yourself short on your time breastfeeding your first.

Weaning can be an emotional time. I know many moms who wean their babies early for one reason or another and later wish they had breastfed longer.

Good luck with which ever choice you make.

Is fostering hard to do. I work a full time job and so does my husband. Is is emotional when one gets adopted by someone else? I was thinking about it. but don't know!!!

We did Nutramagen, as I'm sure everyone is sick of hearing me say, but only b/c we went through every other one, it is a last ditch but worked. We started w/ Lipil though as that's what they had in hospital and if you go to the Enphamil (Emphamil? I have no idea how to spell it; think I blocked it out or I was in denial or something since DH and I could barely afford food for us after that crazy stuff) website, you can register and they will send you a blue million coupons.
Those giraffes want TWO babies to come see them so be positive~ BE, BE, BE POSITIVE. Where in the world did that come from? Amy's video that I watched maybe? Those high school memories came back w/ awful clarity hearing, "let's get a little bit rowdy, R O W D Y" But seriously now, you're on like the crack of the fertility world on here, but you should be sure to hang plenty on "its a go" as it isn't clear exactly what the vibe is or where it comes from: the forum? The actual thread? Rudy? Cover all your bases is all I'm sayin'.
