For any of you that make your own baby food, gotta question about fish

We eat a lot of fish...usually battered fillets. How could I grind that up so Joshie can try it? What liquid should I add to it to get it as smooth as possible?

Blessings, Michelle

hmmm. That's a tough one. I haven't done fish yet just meats, veggies, and fruits. I know that the babies aren't supposed to have fried foods at all. Is the fish battered and then fried? You could always steam a piece and then add a veggie. Personally I love eating salmon and sweet potatoes Not sure if Aiden would be a fan!

I usually buy it battered but lately have been getting different kinds from Schwan's; their fish is SO good. What we had tonight was cod with just a smidgen of crusting. I'm always afraid with fresh fish though of bones. This didn't have bones, I fed him a couple small pieces off my plate but he coughed some so I didn't feed him any more of it.

His bmom is allergic to any kind of seafood so I don't really want to give him a lot of it until I know he isn't allergic. Do you think I could try a teensy bit of pureed salmon?

Blessings, Michelle

P.S. I guess I could mash up some tuna as well just to see if allergic. That should be easy to puree?

Tuna is high in mercury which is why pregnant women are supposed to limit their tuna so maybe hold off on that one? I really don't know. It's a good question for your Ped. I know a lot of people have a shellfish allergy which is actually an iodine allergy. My dh is one of them. I just think salmon is a pretty mild taste. Cod is mild too. If you serve it with a veggie for the family, then maybe just try the same for Joshie. Maybe you can mash it a little with a fork first to make sure you don't see any bones before blending it up. I know my niece will eat absolutely anything that has some ketchup on it and she's 1.5

Let me know how the salmon goes over! Isn't cod what they make fish sticks out of? I used to love those as a kid! With ketchup of course

We give him the salmon. I buy it frozen, but not prepared and just bake it in the toster oven. He loves it. I don't mush it anymore.
About other seefood, my ped told us to not give him any for now.

cat: Thanks; I will ask my ped's nurse and see what she says. We usually have some kind of fish about once a week. I have been pureeing everything else we eat except the fish and giving him one of those tiny jars of baby food meat, like beef or chicken and mixing it with the veggie.

He ate pureed lima beans for the first time last night and loved them.

I will check on the fish...thanks again!

Blessings, Michelle

I read the article "cat" posted and it says basically just to check with your ped, but to try the white fleshy fishes first...it also had a recipe to add a pat of butter and some milk. So that answered my liquid question....

Blessings, Michelle
