Is Physical Therapy necessary for tummy time problems?

It's me again. I just got a call from a Physical Therapist because my baby is having a hard time with tummy time. My Pedi's office called this office because I told them that my baby girl cries all 5 minutes we placed her to do tummy time. Her head is getting a little flat on the back. She is two months old now.
Have any of you have to do this? If so, please let me know what it entails.
I may have to call this office back and find out what is the appt for.

Daysi I haven't heard of that. Mine only sometimes cry on their tummies in the evening now, but I am a CIO mom, doesn't work for everyone though. When I put them down after their first bottle in the am they just go to sleep and take an hour nap. Have you tried putting her down diffent times during the day? My ped might send us to physical therapy for J because she holds her head to the left, we have to work with her at home to stretch her neck, but if that doesn't work she will have to get therapy. Good luck I hope you find something that works for you.

Mustlovedogs--my DD did this when she was around the same age, she hated to be on her tummy at all. She would cry after only a couple of minutes. She just needed get use to being prone on her belly. I am not a physical therapist, but worked in a pediatric therapy clinic before my DD was born. They will help teach you about what stretches and positions to place her in to help her out. My DD was just fine after a month or so.

docshoney-it sounds like your little one has a slight case of torticollis. It is also no big deal, just do the stretches that you were taught. It can be common with newborns and they will grow out of it sooner with your help stretching.

Thank you Erin and Reenabear. I got a little bend out of shape after the call, and my mind started to think way too many things. Your responses made me feel better, and I thank you for that.
I did call the office back, and the appointment is for evaluation so no worries for now.

I'm in the same boat with my daughter Maddie. Both of our daughters were evaluated and Maddie HATES tummy time. She has a flat back of her head and will scream her head off with only a few seconds on her belly. It takes about a half hour just to calm her down afterwards. The therapist said she may need some help, but she put our mind at ease and gave us a lot of great tips to get her use to being in a prone position. I didn't like the idea when our doc recommended it in the beginning, but now I welcome any advice I can get.

Have you tried doing tummy time on your tummy? My DS hated tummy time, especially when he was that age. My ped told me to try laying on the floor with a pillow under my head and put DS on my tummy. He said sometimes they just don't like the hardness of the floor. DS loved doing this and soon was switched over to a floor mat. Good luck!

My son HATED tummy time as well. he cried the whole time he was on his tummy. He also had a little flat spot on the back of his head but the PEDs was not worried about it. He said once they begin to sit up more the flat spot will correct on its own and it did.

I did do the tummy time on my belly and he was totally calm there. So give it try and see how it goes.

Good Luck!!

Thank you Ladies for all your help. It is a great relief to know all these things. The information I got from the internet before starting this thread was kind of scary.
I tried to place Desiree on my legs yesterday, and that worked out a lot better.

Allikita, Elsa- Thank you. I've tried the belly to belly position, and she does not like it. I think it is because she can not see anything.
