Unhappy Problem burper

Hi,
Brennan is 5 weeks old after being 4 weeks early. He hates to burp, I've tried everything in the book but there are times he just doesn't burp. Thank goodness the spit-up/vomitting has gotten better. Will the burping get better? He is a good eater now after having a rough start. We couldn't breastfeed and are now on formula.

Thanks,

Tired Momma Z (Zoie)

Zoie, how much is he taking before you try to burp him? Ethan was a problem burper too but we had to keep at it because of his reflux. He would burp best if we were standing up and had him over our shoulders. Sitting down with him on our shoulders didn't work, putting him on my knees sitting on his bottom only works for my husband, we even tried laying him down on our knees on his stomach. What we learned was that he wasn't one to burp half way through a feeding (on breastmilk or formula). It would take a full four ounces before he'd burp. Now he's on six and is back to problematic burping - or at least on his own terms - but his reflux is better. So we just watch him and if after a half hour he hasn't burped we give him some mylicon just to be on the safe side but that doesn't happen often.

Gracie, our oldest daughter, hardly burped at all. She was a spitter upper but it was not reflux. The strange thing is that my husband can't burp (he'll burp like 3 times a year and it's the smallest little sound) and neither can a few of his cousins. Very strange. As long as he's not spitting up too much I wouldn't really worry about it.

Tired Momma,
Dylan never burped and he had projectile vomitting. What kind of bottles are you using? I use the Playtex Vent Air and they worked great. He will get better at it. Some babies just dont need to burp, thats what my peds said. Send a pic of the little guy....

When Alex had reflux, he actually did better when he did not burp. When I burped him he would projectile every time.

He's getting better at the vomitting part, not as much now but he really needs to burp. You can feel how hard his stomach gets. We are using Playtex Drop In which have helped. We try burping after 1.5-2 oz and then when he is finished. I did pick up some Gas drops for those days where he doesn't burp at all. He is currently taking about 3 oz at a meal. He is starting to get better at the burping but I still worry about it.

I have tried to add a photo but can't get it small enough, sorry.
