Madison is 7 weeks and she weighs 10 lbs 5 oz.
What are your babies doing? Madison has only smiled intentially a few times. She also has started to making cooing sounds. Does your baby/babies enjoy tummy time? Madison enjoys lying on her tummy but will only lift her head for about 30 seconds per tummy time then she just lays it down and lies there content as can be! As for the sleeping..Madison wakes up every 4-5 hours to eat. Since she has an ear infection I have to get up about 10-15 times per night to out her pacifier back in her mouth...I think this makes her ear feel better. Last night I slept on the couch with her in her bouncy seat right by the couch...this way I didn't have to get up out of bed everytime she needed her pacifier!!!! |

Kathryn-hope you are feeling better soon, will be saying a prayer for you!
Jackson is 1 month and 2 days old and I am sure he must be over 10 pounds by now...I will have to weigh him again soon! What are your babies doing? Jackson is smiling like crazy, at first I was convinced it was gas but now he does it when he doesnt have any gas, last night DH and I swear he was laughing at me, he put his mouth on my chin and I laughed and he smiled so wide and it sounded like he chuckled! He also is noticing a lot more with his eyes, he sees his hands but has yet to discover they are attatched and he is also following objects with his eyes! Does your baby/babies enjoy tummy time? Jackson is not a big fan of tummy time most of the time, every now and then he will appear to like it for about 5 minutes but most of the time he just cries so we put him on his back to give him a little bit of time to move around. But I remember someone posting that they use their boppy to let their baby sleep on their stomach so I tried it for his tummy time and he loves it, he also loves laying on my chest and lifting his head, so we just use that for our tummy time, but I am still trying to get him to lay on his mat on the floor but as with most things Jackson has his own ideas, lol! He is holding his head up at an almost 90 degree angle for a few minutes at a time! A quick question for you ladies, is anyone noticing their baby shedding skin? I mean he had the normal flaking and dry skin that most newborns get but now he is literally peeling like a snake...it doesnt seem to bother him but DH tried to pull some off the other night because he thought it was a string, and it just makes me squirm! Hope you ladies are having a great Wednesday, we had snow last night so Jackson and I are going to go look at it through the window! Cant wait until next year when he will be able to enjoy it as much as I do (I know Im crazy but I loooove the snow!!!) Oh and how much are your babies staying awake durring the day? Jackson sleeps/cat naps for an hour or so and then is up for a few hours and this is the cycle for most of the day, he seems happy and content most of the time until of course around 5 when he starts his fussy time but I thought he would be sleeping more...not that I am complaining because I get to interact with him but I want him to get the rest he needs....

Sarah - Aedyn is up most of the morning and the evening - she takes a pretty decent nap at some point in the afternoon (different times every day) for about 3-4 hours.
Yippee - last night was a good night - she slept so nicely and no screaming bouts. |

Sophia is 6 weeks old and weighed 6 pounds 10 ounces this past Sunday (my original due date)!
What are your babies doing? I may be crazy but I swear I heard her chuckle last night. I wish I had been in her room watching her but I heard this giggle over the monitor at about 3:00 am. She does smile at me a few times a day, which I love! Does your baby/babies enjoy tummy time? Not so much LOL. But she does lift her head and chest off of the ground and look around.

What are your babies doing?
Davis is smiling, trying to mimic my facial expressions, and starting to chew on his hands. I jokingly call him the smallest bulimic, because sometimes he sucks his fingers too far and gags! I'm trying to discourage the hand-sucking by replacing it with a pacifier, but to no avail. Does your baby/babies enjoy tummy time? Davis seems largely ambivalent about tummy time. He'll squirm for a bit and make grumpy noises, but doesn't generally cry. Well, I scheduled my appointment with the breast specialist for next week. I'll keep y'all posted. Sarah, Davis has sensitive skin, so I asked my pediatrician what to do. She recommended lathering him with a combo of Cetaphil cream (in a tub) and Acquafor (also in a tub.) I really grease him up after his bath. So far, it seems to work. I was told not to pull on skin flakes back when he had serious cradle cap as that can cause scabbing/infection. Kathryn

Hello Ladies! Do you mind if I join you? George was born July 29, but he was 10 weeks early, so he is probably close to your babies in development.
Most of George's smiles and giggles are as he is going to sleep. I get a few during awake time, but not many. Tummy time he tolerates. He will turn his head side to side, and he prefers one side so I usually have to turn him back. Did anyone buy the special tummy time mats? I am just using a colorful quilt and a rolled up blanket or boppy.

Tabitha. Come join our group of tired worn out new moms. ![]() Hi girls, Reed's cold has kept me occupied this past week. Hes also been very very fussy and I discovered last night after eating takeaway Thai food that he doesn't like spicy breastmilk! He actually grimaced, gagged, pulled off the breast and screamed blue murder. It was kinda funny until he didn't stop crying until about an hour ago. It started this morning! So I'm pretty worn out and hoping he at lest sleeps a bit tonight. Hes so off and on with the sleeping. One night he'll do 5 hours straight and the next I'm lucky if its 5 minutes. I guess we've still got a ways to go before our little ones sleep all night. (Kathryn we are all jealous). Although did you girls know that officially sleeping through the night for a baby is 5 hours straight? So Reed did it once going by that standard. I just wish it was 8 hours! As for the weight, Reed's last weigh in he was 9 pounds 8 ounces about 2 weeks ago so I assume hes over 10 pounds by now. He has his first immunizations in a couple of weeks so I guess we'll know then. I might take him in to get weighed before then though just to be sure hes on schedule What are your babies doing? Asides from being fussy in the evenings (why do babies do this I wonder?) he is definately smiling when I walk over to him. Its so cute, he has this huge grin that spread right over his face. Hes also cooing and staring more at everything around him. Does your baby/babies enjoy tummy time? Nope, not unless its on either Mommy or Daddy's chest. We have one of those play mat things that has arches with dangling animals and it plays mozart etc. What are they called? (Tabitha I just use a blanket most times too, its just easier) Anyway, we lie him on that or the blanket and hes fine for about a minute and then he either cries or falls asleep. He likes it on his back better. On my chest however he lifts his head up at the 90 degree angle and looks around. Because he was born at 38 weeks though I'm not going to worry too much if these milestones take him a wee bit longer as hes still pretty little and I hate the idea of always worrying about his development. I believe babies figure stuff out in their own time. Anyway, this is one of the few pictures of him during tummytime before he starts crying. Totsites - Reed Alexander Lynch Which reminds me, does anyone elses baby not deal well with a dirty diaper? DH will feed him his evening bottle of expressed milk (this puts him to sleep nicely) however because he hates the feel of a wet diaper so much he always wakes up and cries when he pees. I just wish he'd sleep through it. Otherwise I wonder if he'll ever be able to sleep the entire night while hes wearing diapers. The one time he slept the 5 hours he didn't pee for some reason.

Davis is totally ambivalent about dirty/wet diapers. He would hang out in them all day. Does this bode poorly for potty-training down the road? Alana, have you tried different diaper brands? Pampers seem to do a good job wicking the moisture away. I've also used Huggies. I tried generic, but Davis had pee-leaks with those.
k. P.S. Welcome, Tabitha!

We've tried both Huggies and Pampers and definately prefer the Pampers swaddlers. They absorb the moisture really well, its just hes so sensitive to it for some reason. What is really cute though is we know exactly when he has peed as he tells us. He has a special little cry just for when hes got a wet diaper. Its too cute.

Tabitha!Alana - have you tried putting some vasaline on before his diaper - this will keep the pee from reabsorbing in the skin and he might not notice that he has peed. We love the swaddlers diapers too....Aedyn is on her last of the Newborn size and moving into 1's. What are your babies doing? Aedyn is so bright eyed and is now following me with her eyes, she smiles a lot and does the ooo lips, but no sound yet. She also has quite the pair of lungs and is exercising her diaphram - maybe she'll be a singer. She is definatley loud! Does your baby/babies enjoy tummy time? She absolutely hates tummy time! We also have a mat but she prefers to be on mommy & daddy's chest. She does also lift her head and look around but mostly falls asleep. Last night we went to dinner out and she was the sweetest sleeping baby the entire dinner! I have come to the conclusion that she did not have colic - since that Saturday - she has been really good with the exception of a few hrs on monday. I think it was the domperidone that I was taking for lactation. the last breast milk she got was on friday. I think it finally left her system over the weekend. She was a peach for the last two days! although it could be the chiro adjustment she got on monday too. what ever it was, I am quite sure it was not colic. |

Christine thats great it wasn't colic. When my father came to stay with us from New Zealand all he kept saying was we should be very happy Reed doesn't have colic. Supposedly my sister had it terribly and would scream constantly for 4 - 5 hours straight every night. To be honest shes still annoying now...lol.
I definately found Pampers to be the better brand for Reed. I don't know why but we always had leeks with Huggies. We even have an entire unused box of Huggies in our basement that I refuse to use as I was changing his outfit 3 to 4 times a day with them. I've had not problems with Pampers so its true that you usually find one brand works better than others. Its funny that none of our babies enjoy tummy time unless its on our chests. I don't blame them, it doesn't look like much fun lying smooshed on the floor like that. I know some people use a large exercise ball but I think the chest is perfectly fine. I have noticed lately though that Reed definately wants to be held all the time. He hates sitting in his swing or infant seat and asides from sleeping in the stroller if I go for a walk he needs to be with me. I think its cute, until the housework gets out of control like it has now as I can't get any done. I've tried doing it with him in a swing or the Baby Bjorn but its still difficult. I guess hes just going through a clingy stage or something. Last night he didn't even want the bottle from my DH. Thankfully DH persisted and he eventually drank it and slept for 5 hours straight. It was heaven!

Hi Ladies ... I'm hoping I'm able to join in on your thread again. I was chatting in the beginning and then my life turned upside down. In the last month we have been going through the phases of a cross country military move with DH being gone most of the time. But we have slowly started to get settled again and our internet is finally up and running. So between unpacking a box or two, cleaning up, and of course tending to my princess I'm able to be on the forum more. So again, hopefully I can slip right in to your thread.
Last time I was on here I was trying everything under the sun to get my breast milk supply to come in more fuller. Well, that never happened and I decided that I would spend my time enjoying my baby rather than pumping all day and taking yucky pills for a drop, literally. Mya is now on formula for all feedings but a few times a day she will "ask" for the boob and latch on and get what I've got. We call it her appetizer lol. At her last weigh in she was 9.0 and that was about 3 wks ago. Her 2 month check up is on Tuesday so I'm pretty sure she is over 10lbs. Speaking of, I'm nervous about the shots but I know all will be fine. Can I give her Tylenol beforehand? Yikes, I hope she doesn't hurt too bad. Right now I'm still on maternity leave and will be until the 10th of Nov. I've got her enrolled in daycare and will start taking her for a few hours a day the week before I go to work. Needless to say there are lots and lots of things going on these days (just as I'm sure there is with everyone). Oh a good note, Mya has been sleeping through the night for about 2 weeks now. She will get her last bottle about 1030 and wakes up around 0700 or 0730. Only twice since we've been in our new house has she woken up at 0430 and then went right back to sleep. How much are your babies taking at each feeding now? Mya is on 5 oz. Okay, so I'm going to go back and read up on everyone else as I invite myself to join you ladies. Honestly, I hope you don't mind. Is everyone ready for Halloween? Any big plans for your little ones?

Mya and Caroline must both enjoy "appetizers"! That's all she gets on the boob, too! She nurses at bedtime and when she wakes up, but there's barely a trickle for her to get. She's been on formula at every feeding for pretty much her entire life (all 12 long weeks of it). It was SO frustrating trying to get my supply up. The lactation consultant was GREAT, but really didn't know why I had such supply troubles. Oh well, once I got over the struggling, I enjoyed my time at home with Caroline MUCH more. Now that I'm back at work, I think it's a lot easier on her (and me) that she didn't nurse exclusively. ~Jen
