August & September Mommies

Okay - since I know all my Sept girls......and a few of us delivered in August.
And I know a few of the Aug girls,

I thought I would start a little thread so that we could discuss our little ones progresses and help to answer questions we might have.

Right now - my biggest issue is BF - just not enough milk!
the MFM called in a prescription for me, it should be ready this afternoon and I will start using it tomorrow.
Hopefully this medication will turn the faucet on with milk production!

Christine, thanks for starting this thread so you can continue to communicate with all those new mommies you've been talking to since you started your new journey. It's great. Sorry to hear that your supply seems to be lacking. I hope they find something that works for you soon.

I started taking Reglan yesterday - they say I should start to see a difference after 4 days.
but the side effects are already kicking in....i am so tired, last night i couldnt even stay awake to ease aedyn's little tummy ache. bless DH, he stayed up with her and walked with her for over an hour before she calmed back down - i woke up it was just after 4am and he finally got her to sleep about 2am, and she was up again. Thank goodness for only a little bit to eat and fall back alseep until just before 7am.

when do they start to take in more than 2 oz per feeding?

I don't know, I breastfed in the beginning and then when we started bottles he was taking three ounces. It took forever for him to take more then four and we are still taking six ounces per bottle now.

Charms- good question! I can't even remember how old my other children were when they took more then 2oz. how long is Aedyn taking to eat and how long between each feeding? Victoria goes any where between 2-5 hours between feedings and nurses from any where from 10 min- to 30 if she takes 30 min. she takes a break between sides of about 15 min to sleep and wakes up and takes the other. Did the lactation specialist tell you to watch drinking to much milk and that it could upset their tummies I was suprised when the pediatrition told me that may be making her spit up more.

she is spending about 15 mins on the left and about 10 on the right, but then she is still starving and puts another oz and a half down on formula. she is about 2.5 - 4 hours between feedings.

i am taking reglan right now and boy this is doing a number on me right now. i feel so out of it, like i am not even in my own skin - this is just day two. i am not sure i can keep this up another 12 days or not. if i keep feeling like this, i am going to have to stop taking it for the sake of my sanity and just live with formula and as much breast milk that i can give her.

Christine I thought of one other thing they told me to try when Victoria was putting her self to sleep or not getting enough. The lac. specialist said to undress her to her diaper and do skin to skin and just lay her on my chest where she could listen to my heart. They said to put her inside my night gown or shirt and that would help her alot. I tried it and it seemed to help her get the hang of things.

I am not sure if you have already mentioned this, but are pumping as well? I was producing too much milk and started pumping between nursing to relieve myself- well that was the wrong thing to do because by doing that it just made my body produce more milk. I am not sure if this will help you, but I thought I'd share. I know this can be stressful, just know you are doing the best for your baby whatever you can give her is right- remember- you have to take care of yourself too!

I am now a pumping pro! but still only getting an oz to oz and a half with each pump session.

Amy - I have tried the skin to skin time, she enjoys that time, but is asleep so much faster
this milk production has been an issue since day 1 - nothing came in until day 5, the day we left the hospital, infact one nurse said, "dear, you might not get any milk in - this happens to some women"

I fear that I messed this all up when the twins came and I didnt express any of the milk that was produced, i did everything i could to ensure i didnt express any milk so that my cycle would start on time and we could do our FET.

now the milk is in short supply and high demand.

Well - another thing, I tried the Reglan for two days and was so out of my skin yesterday, i decided that I cant take it anymore. I am starting to feel alittle normal again today. And will have to just deal with being able to provide as much milk as I can and be satisfied with the fact that I am doing the best I can.

Great idea on a thread Christine ... I wanna play! Our princess Mya graced our presence on Aug 27. Okay so it sounds like you and I are in the same boat. I've gotten some milk in but not enough to keep Mya's weight up so we are using forumla with every feeding on top of me BFing. Our daily schedule is BF, formula, then I'll pump. This happens at least 8 times a day. I'm also on fenugreek and after not too much more milk I've added Reglan (only on day 3) hoping for a miracle. I love the BF time and I hope I can do it to where she is actually getting full and enough. We shall see. But I'm like you; I'll do what I can for as long as I can and then the rest will be fulfilled with formula. Can't wait to hear from other new moms. Thanks for starting an "update" thread. Hugs!

Devan - I hope the reglan works for you, it really had me off the deep end, as if the stresses of not producing enough wasnt hard enough. I am back to my normal self and not taking the reglan. still getting 1 - 1.5 oz per pump session.....we are doing the same thing, BF, supplement, pump.

I am pumping and then bottle feeding the breast milk to Madison. I am doing it this way because she has a baracouda suck and has tour my nipples to pieces. I pump every 3 hours and get 3 oz. Madison is drinking 2.5 oz every 3 hour. I think that she eats a lot for how tiny she is. When we left the hospital on Sat. her weight was 6 lb. 5 oz.

Katrina I know what you mean about hard sucking. In the beginning Mya was sucking so hard my nipple was bleeding but now after "practice" she has it down. Sometimes though the initial latch is tough but then she gets into her sucking routine and the latch is better. Maybe if you keep trying she will better at her sucking/latch. 3oz from pumping, that is great.

Yeah, Mya is starting to eat between 2-3 oz per feeding. Not everytime but a few times a day we have reached 3 oz. According to the ped that is right on target so I expect she will break the 7 lb mark here soon. She was 6lbs 13oz at birth, 5lb 14 oz at 5 days, 6lbs 8oz at 9 days and at 2 wks 6lbs 11oz. She started to gain her weight after we started supplementing each sitting.

Oh and Christine, I was talking with my LC and I was recommended another herb to try for production. I've only been taking it about 12 hours and I can tell a difference when I pumping. The testimonials on the website sure sound promising and amazing. But, I think I'm slowly getting more milk. I'll let you know today after a full dose how the pumping is going. It is on motherlove.com and it is the More Milk Special Blend that I'm trying. It has Fenugreek in it as well as some herb (goat's rue) to help with low mammary tissue (my LC thinks I could just have small tissues). But I wanted to pass it on. I'm not sure if you were up to trying more possibilities or not.

Okay, so I had to share some pics, hope you don't mind. I'm just so in love with her that I have the urge to share her with the world.
