Putting baby one side to sleep
My daughter has been diagnosed with acid reflux. She has been on Zantac since Tuesday night- it is working so-so. The last couple of days she has been miserable- not able to sleep at all- I feel so bad for her. A couple of people have mentioned putting her on her side to sleep. So today I put her on her side for her nap- where I could watch her- she fell right to sleep - and slept for 2.5 hours. This was great but I have it instilled in me "back to sleep" always put her on her back. I just wanted hear other thoughts on this.
Thanks, Amy |

Amy, my son also had reflux and I too put him on his side to sleep but not until he was about 2.5 months old. When he was smaller then that if I didn't feel comfortable putting him down on his back I would let him lay on my chest. But definitely since 2.5 months he's been sleeping on his sides. He just doesn't seem comfortable on his back anymore. It's the age old question of what really is best. I mean if on their back and they get sick they could choke, if on their bellies but not strong enough they could suffocate - we are darned either way. That's why I felt safe with Ethan on his side. I also had his bed at an incline (blankets under the mattress) and kept him up for 20-30 minutes after each feeding and made sure he burped, no matter how long it took. I hope you find something that helps.

My son also had reflux and was on daily meds and I had to put blankets under the mattress to make it go on an incline.
The best was when the gastro. dr told me to feed him cereal at 6 weeks with a spoon. That was a project. Good luck I hope it clears it up fast...It so sad when babies are feeling discomfort.

We put Caitlin on her side a lot. It helped her too. She was swaddled so she couldn't roll onto her belly (which she sleeps on her belly now) or her back. We also elevated the top part of her bed. Together it helped her but didn't completely fix it. The soy formula worked for her, the reflux is almost gone.

Nothing but time will really help! They just have to grow out of it, I changed formula, had them on meds....but another thing I did want to mention is that if you have a bouncer seat let her try sleeping in that. We did that with DD for I think almost two months...could have been longer.

our peditrician told us that Aedyn should sleep on her back, however she can sleep on her side also - there is no issue with side sleeping for infants.
