Feeding schedule?!?

Anyone have any insight as to how long you are typically supposed to do feedings every two to three hours? Just wondering when I can start trying to get them to go a longer stretch at night - is it weight/age dependent?

Also, how much was your baby(ies) eating at each of the feedings and when did you up it and how did you know when to up it?

Victoria is sleeping any where between 5=7 hours a night now although she feeds twice in an hour and a half period before she goes down she is upto 7lbs 13 oz. I would say it depends on the baby and the weight.

Madison is eating 3 1/2 oz every 2 1/2-3 hours. She does not sleep for more than 3 hours at a time. We uped her feedings from 3 oz to 3 1/2 oz about a week ago. We knew we needed to do this because after eating 3 oz she would continue to root and we would have to give her more to eat.

Are you breastfeeding or formula? I am breastfeeding and it is every 2.5 - 3 hours.
Formula is thicker and takes longer to digest- that is the only way a newborn would be sleeping for over 3.5 hours.

Mine were eating every 2-3 hours up until just a few weeks ago. Now they sleep a solid 6 hours at night most night before wanting food. then they eat again in 3-4 hours.
It takes awhile to get them going longer stretches for most babies.

I think it just depends on the baby because Anna was sleeping at least 8 hours straight at night when she was 3 weeks old (we're spoiled, I know). The pediatrician actually told us that she shouldn't sleep that long without eating and wanted us to wake her up, but she was growing just fine, so we let her sleep. However, she eats twice her normal amount right before bed (7-8 oz.), which is why I think she sleeps so long. We still don't have a daytime feeding schedule figured out because she wants to eat much of the time, but I'm not complaining since we get to sleep at night. Is there a point that we should have a regular feeding schedule rather than feeding on demand?
