BRONCHILITIS and Rsv

Did anyone have a baby that got this? My daughter got a cold two weeks ago. We took her to the docter after about 3 days just to get her checked out no wheezing no infection doctor told us that colds can last up to 10 days in babies so after the 11th day we where still noticing her coughing and a runny nose and rattling in her chest we took her back to the doctor on monday and they said she has wheezing and an ear infection. He said it was bronchilitis which i think comes from the Rsv disease. We have her on antiobotic and albuteral for the wheezing. I am just so worried and tired of this cold. She seems a little better today but I don't have a stethescope to check her lungs. Does anyone know how long this will last. The wheezing as far as we know has been going on for 4 days so far the cold has been 2 weeks. She seems happy through all this and is eating still maybe not as much but atleast 4 oz every 3 hrs. Will this ever go away?

My son had bronchiolitis when he was 4 months old. His was not from RSV, but rather the flu virus. His case was severe & he needed to be hospitalized and was later diagnosed with a case of severe asthma. It will go away, but I can't tell you a time frame. My son's illness was drawn out from his other complications. Please keep up posted.

RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) is a VIRUS, not a bacteria, so antibiotics will do nothing for it.

thanks for the replies, i think the antibiotic was for the ear infection. But doctor said she had bronchilitis i just assumed it was from RSV but not intirely sure. She was wheezing so bad last night i almost took her to the emergency room but then she coughed like 3 or 4 times and the wheezing seemed to stop. I quess the coughing might get some of the flem out? Did your son use albuteral did it help?

RSV can cause both bronchitis and ear infections. If the antibiotics don't seem to be working after the course, both are probably caused by the virus.

I just got through this with my son. It is a horrible experience, I'm sorry you are going through it, but it does get better. It has been just over 2 weeks on medication and he is finally back to himself. He too was diagnosed with bronchilitis and I think the medication that did the trick was Prednisolone that helped clear up his lungs. He is still using the nebulizer 3 times a day but has really improved. If she is not better I wouldn't be afraid to take her back to the Dr.

Ethan hasn't experienced this but my receptionist's grandson did just a few weeks ago. He and Ethan were sick at the same time but Ethan's we found, kind of by trial and error, is from reflux.
