fawn - sorry to hear that your body is not cooperating, i hope that the herbs help you out. i am sure that is frustrating
Jenna - how is Josh doing? Em - thanks for the advice- but it seemed like she was getting a little bothered by not going #2. how are things in your world? any infections this week? kelli - congrats on the milestone!!! i have tried not to by the hoover mom when it comes to my DH, but i have corrected him. but in reality he does a lot of things better than i do, like dealing with Lyla when she is so tired and crying but wont go to sleep, maybe you could talk to him and just try to explain why you want things a certain way and that you just love your little boys so much that you don't want anything to go wrong! Colleen - i hope that your DD takes to napping soon, it is amazing what they do to themselves sometimes. Lyla can go a couple of days of only taking a 1/2 hour nap and boy is she cranky by bed time but then she can take a 2 hour and a 3 hour nap a day later, not sure what that is all about. as for the food, i hear you on that. it is amazing how they just watch you eat every little thing. i think that we will be doing the cereal at 4 months as well - good luck and we will have to trade notes! monique - sorry to hear that Garrett is still dealing with his reflux, i hope that he magically gets over it or outgrows it, which i think is what Lyla did AFM - we did the suppository last night. Lyla cried, i cried but it all took about 20 minutes. it was everywhere so we tried a bath and then she went to the bathroom in the tub as well. i really don't ever want to do that again, it broke my heart knowing that i was hurting her. i am such a wimp but i asked my DH to do it and he just shook his head too. We are both suckers and she is already spoiled rotten! have any of you mixed formula and breast milk? i have a hungry little girl on my hands and she is already at 5 plus ounces a feeding - and the milk that i froze and stored is not enough for when i am work. i was just curious if you had any experience. i hope that you have a great week ![]()

That stinks about the suppository. Leah only poops every few days but she doesn't seem constipated so I haven't done anything yet. I hope to introduce prunes as one of her first fruits so we can use that when she seems uncomfortable. We have mixed formula and breast milk. I was using 4 ounces of formula and 2 ounces of breast milk. I don't pump more than 2 ounces in a session so we were supplementing at night when she was having trouble eating. She had no problems taking the formula but she is a very easy going baby when it comes to food.

Colleen....Arden is just so cute! I love the catepillar costume....so adorable.
Kelli - that is awesome that Klayton rolled over. It is amazing how fast they are all growing. Olivia has not rolled yet, but I see her trying. This morning I found her in her crib, 180 degrees from where I put her last night...and out of her sleep positioner. I would have loved to have seen exactly how she did it. As far as DH's....I do the same thing...but last weekend, he was trying to feed her which he does not do too often, and she was fussing, so I went to take over, and then he said, "well I need a chance to learn" so I felt really bad....and I apologized and gave her back to him and he worked it out on his own. I spend so much time with her, and he doesn't b/c he is working, so I have to learn how to stay back and let him do things his way (sometimes...lol) Jaime - I started mixing the BM with formula a while back b/c Olivia hated the formula taste, and it worked great. I read that mixing it helps them digest it better too, so there is nothing wrong with doing that. Now she takes the formula on its own great. I am so sorry about the suppository issue....poor little Lyla...well at least she is more comfortable now. Fawn - I am sorry about your milk supply. It was a night when your supply is much lower, so maybe try again in the morning to see what you get. My supply went way down on one side when I had mastitis, so maybe you have a plugged duct or something. I compress my pictures in Microsoft Office Picture Manager. It gives a choice and I use the one for webpages. AFM....Olivia sleeps about 10-11 hours straight at night (AMEN) but hates to nap. It is so strange because she sleeps in her crib at night no problem, and will nap with me in my bed durring the day for 3 hours if I stay with her....but she screams in her crib for naps. Now I would love to sleep all day with her...but I really have things I would like to do. If she does not nap she just gets so cranky....I just don't know how to transition her to nap in her crib. And she will fight it...big time...ugh...she is fighting it right now...so I better go..... Have a great day ladies!

Hi ladies!
![]() I also don't give PJ any vitamins but am going to mention it at his pedi appt Monday since he has dairy sensitivity, I'm drinking OJ with extra calcium and vitamin D to try to supplement what I'm losing in milk but not sure if that's enough. Monique - good greif woman! What is up with the houseful of people? Yikes! I don't blame you not taking out the little man in the snow. DH took Payton out for just a few minutes to our neighbors and I was freaking out he was going to get sick Good luck resisting the temptations of Christmas shopping. I'll say it again "My name is Emilie...and I have a problem!" LOL!Colleen - Arden is gorgeous! I love the chinaman costume, cracked me up! We also have Payton's 4 month appt next week but he turns 4 months on Friday. I'm waiting to hear what the doctor has to say about the rice cereal - I can't decide if I want to start him on that right away or wait a little while longer on EBF. Let me know what your pedi says and we'll reconvene on the topic next week! ![]() Kelli - don't feel bad. I don't think that your DH isn't taking suggestions well b/c you've got multiples! If that was the case, I think we'd all be in trouble on here! As I have had multiple infections from day 1, I too have relied 100% more on DH than I ever planned to. I think now he's starting to accept my criticism better because when he tries things my way, it ends up working out better...but beware. Now everytime PJ poops, he holds him out to me and says "you do it better". LOL...that's what I get I suppose! And congrats on Klayton rolling over- YAY!!! Fawn - awwww shucks lady, I'm super sorry about the boobie issues. I consider myself an expert on Fenugreek - I've been taking it since late August and have successfully gone from taking 9 to 1 or 2 a day. I will be thinking of you and if you have any questions about it, feel free to facebook me Just be careful - if it does start working, it can pick up the production quickly after a few days (I'm pretty sure that's where the last 2 cases of mastitis came from b/c it makes me overproduce when I'm sleeping and PJ doesn't wake to eat). But it's worth it. I tried to get off it last week but apparantly 1 stinkin pill makes all the difference. So I am back to 2 a day and 1 sometimes. I guess I figure I'd rather have too much and get up to pump than have too little...good luck!Jamie - that's insane that Lyla was backed up that bad, esp since you're EBF. Holy smokes! I agree, if PJ was ever upset that he wasn't pooping, I'd try to do the same. He actually had an explosive poo (up his back and all over Dh while he was holding him LOL) last night - must have been something in the air! As for the infections, I'm really praying nonstop right now. I've had what feels like either a pulled muscle or a clogged duct in my upper right breast for a few days. I decided to put heat and massage it today before PJ fed off of it and now it hurts worse :P I left a message for the lactation lady and am going to try to determine what the heck is going on...it also is a little sore on lefty in the same place too - mostly when I turn my arms or my body. Very strange. But if it is a clogged duct, my body has given me more than enough chances to unclog it. HOLY SMOKES! I can't believe she's taking in 5oz in a feeding. WOW!!! Nicely done Jamie! ![]() Roxy - sounds like a good plan with the prunes, from what I hear once they get on solids it's a whole different ballgame with the pooping. I'm gonna just sit back and be content for now that he only 'esplodes' once or twice a week! LOL! How is Leah doing btw?? Rosie - hmmmm...you and your DH have a good point. I guess they do need to learn, I know it's hard for us to just sit and watch when we'd rather do it ourselves. That brings a different light to me. Thanks! Otherwise, things are moving along pretty good. Payton has grown well out of his 3-6 month clothes in length so his grampa is going to take us shopping again tomorrow after I get my flu shot. YAY! Payton started sitting up on his own yesterday. It was SO exciting. As with every other milestone he's been hitting, he did it to touch one of our dogs. She is his best buddy. It's cute...but her filthy germy kisses aren't so much :P I do have a question - I've never had a flu shot before, what do I have to look forward to afterwards? Do you get sick or anything??? I have my first weekend alone without DH this weekend and I'm nervous if I get sick it will suck. And if I get sick, is it something I need to protect Payton from? Thanks!

Em - I had my flu shot at my 6 week check up with my OB. That night I felt a little achey in my body, I may have had a very slight temp...and my arm hurt a bit...but nothing terible. I felt fine by the morning.
I never thought to ask if it would have an affect on Olivia with my BF'ing...but I think u both will be fine. Good luck...and stop the shopping...LOL.....

Em, well my parents flew out west (to our place) for the winter to work, my sister is a commuter so she stays with us for 20 days and then goes to her own place (5 hours away) for the other 10 and my neice was put out by her mother and step father and had no place to go while waiting for housing for her and her little guy. What were we to do?? We don't have the heart to send her to the women's shelter like her mom did, argh, the inlaws drive me nuts!! We have had one heck of a week with those guys...love to hate them and hate to love them
So, if our neice does not get into housing before her baby is born we will have another infant by February...yay us!! lol.So, I know I have been talking about this for two months now but Garrett is still HATING tummy time and still not using his upper body to hold himself up while on his tummy. My boy will never roll over, I dont think. I am trying not to worry about it as he has reached all other milestones and I know all babies are different. Its funny, I read what someone had to say on the topic on another site..."Don't worry, its not like he will still be crying and pitching a fit when he is on his tummy when he is 18 years old...he will roll over eventually". Then of course I had to jump ahead to him being 18 and realized that I will again worry about him being on his tummy (or back) for totally different reasons....bahahahaha!! (Sorry, had to get that in there).

Emilie – I love the lobster costume and pot! How clever are you? I’ve had my flu shot every year for a decade (including the H1N1). All that happens to me is that my arm gets a bit warm there that night and is a bit sore for ~24 hours. The virus is killed so Payton won’t get it. The good thing is that you’ll make antibodies that can be transferred to your baby when BF. This might provide him with some immunity to the flu.
Monique – Great post regarding the issues associated with tummy time! It made me laugh nervously. AdaRuts – I can’t believe how big Austin is! And that he can stand! He isn’t that much older than Emily. Kelli – I don’t give Emily vitamins (yet), but I’ve been considering them. I wish that we had a 3 month appointment. During our first appointment, the ped asked me how much vitamin D I get. I do get 100% of my vitamin D through a supplement. I also take extra calcium to protect my bones during BFing. Ha! My DH tells me that our daughter tells him things that fit his way of doing things. I don’t think that you’re alone, but then I’m so glad that fathers are more involved than when I was young. History – I love the pictures of Lyla! I can’t believe that she can sit up by herself. She looks like she enjoys painting, but that she’s not so sure about the costumes. I’m so sorry about your wee ones experience with suppository. After my C-section, I came to the conclusion that they were pure evil. After her last ped appointment, Emily went 4 days between stools, and then it was… well…very large and soft. I’m not sure why she waited, but I was wondering if had anything to do with her rotavirus vaccine (an attenuated oral vaccine), but I couldn’t find any data to support it. My ped indicated it wasn’t a problem unless she had pain or the stools were hard. We needed to use formula at the beginning and during a growth spurt. We gave her the breast milk first in one bottle and then had an ounce of formula ready in the second one to top her off. Yes, my baby only ate 1 oz (or less) when she came home from the hospital, and I couldn’t even pump a half of an oz. The only downside of actually mixing them is that you’d need to dump what was left over and it might include some breast milk. Colleen – Arden’s pictures are so cute! They want me to take some more casual baby alone shots this week!

I had the flu shot a few weeks ago and I felt fine after. You don't get sick from the flu shot (according to my sister who is a physician's assistant) just an achy arm. The flu shot is good for your baby since you are also giving him the antibodies for the flu.
Leah is doing well. She has been very crabby lately and that is very abnormal since she is a super happy and easy going baby. We had to take her out of a restaurant one day because she was screaming so loud. She is also having lots of trouble with the time change. She wants to go to bed so early and now has to take an evening nap. She is almost rolling over-I can't wait to see it. Still not a great sleeper at night. She gets up 2-3 times to nurse throughout the night. I can't wait for that to end so I can get a full nights sleep. I don't know if she needs to eat or just is using it to help her get back to sleep. I figure I will talk to the ped about it at her next appt.

Thank you guys SO much for your help with the flu shot. I was thinking "am I walking outta here with the flu or what?!" And thank you for mentioning the antibodies, that makes me feel SO much better, I was hoping that might happen...I am curious if you have a weakened immune system if you're still ok post-flu shot or what? I think my body (and the Lord) are trying really hard to fight off another infection right now. I spent a few minutes crying about it this afternoon and then got up and thought "I have faith that this will pass." I pray that I don't get another infection, but have faith if I do that it will come and go and not sway my determination to EBF. It still would really suck though...!
And about pooping...Payton has had a couple of poo explosions over the past 2 days and now has little white and pink bumps on top of some redness along his butt where his cheekies meet. I've been putting butt paste on there and his nurse said to put neosporin and a warm bath on there but it just doesn't seem right. Anyone seen this on their LOs??? I know - two questions in one day...I'm pushin it! LOL!

Rosie, I did have my flu shot today. I think it went well. I've had a pretty decent headache all day but otherwise, seems to be ok!
![]() all right, another question of the day from me...who all has gotten the h1n1 vaccine? Have you had any side effects? Is anyone not getting it? I'm torn. I've been back & forth on it for weeks and now it seems the shots are finally available. I can't make up my mind, I even made a pro and con list. I just keep coming back to if it was just me, I would never have gotten either shot...but it's Payton I worry about. But I stay at home. If I'm exposed so is he regardless of the shot. Vaccines like this just scare me and dh is not wanting it but is leaving it up to me...sorry for the freak out...it's what I do!

We don't have it yet in MA but I do plan to get it. My sister works in a hospital and got it and she was fine. Once again it gives the baby the antibodies so I think it is important. My primary care said that the benefits outweigh the risks and I think she is right (and I hate vaccines).

I've had both the flu shot and the H1N1 shot - neither have given me any side effect's. The hospital that I work at actually made both shots mandatory this year.
Ive had both my parents and DH's parents go to public health and request the shot's as they take care of the babies during the week - I was leary of the shot as well, but seeing firsthand the effect's of this new flu on little one's really scares me enough to put any small side effects aside. It really attacks their respirtory system. I highy recommend getting it - I will also be getting my LOs vaccinated when they are old enough ( december ).

i am still on the fence about the swine flu vaccine - the people that got really sick had underlying health issues such as asthma - but at the same time i had a student in class today tell me that she has swine flu and is in school because her mother wouldn't let her miss another day
![]() our district actually sent out a letter/survey today asking students if the vaccine was available here at school if they would get it AFM - big day today, introducing formula. Lyla never turns down food or boob for that matter so i don't think that it is going to be an issue... hopefully it doesn't upset her stomach!
