ok, for my first question. how long do you swaddle? Lyla hates it when i first do it but it seems to make her sleep better because she is not having her arms flying around waking her up... just curious.

I did it until Wyatt could roll over at about 3.5 months. At that point I felt it was unsafe. Wyatt seemed to hate it at first but when I swaddled tight and rocked him it would calm him down (and he was colicky for the first 3 months). The flying arms and startle response does wake them so swaddling is great. If you do have a little fussy one on your hands go to the library and rent The Happiest Baby on the Block (the DVD is easier to get through, but with the book just skip to the section that explains how the 5 S's work). The methods are really helpful when you are pulling your hair out from lack of sleep. Sorry to jump in Summer Mommies ![]()

Thanks for starting this thread...I have a million questions every day!
As far as the swaddling...we swaddle all the time. She won't sleep soundly without it. I agree with Jen till about 3 months, I think the book she referenced is also very good. I have it and he goes into great detail on swaddling how to's. Even saying that it is OK for newborns to be swaddled for a good portion of each day.

Jaime - Great idea about this thread. I'll be here posting and making questions myself.
In answer to your question swaddling is okay until your baby can handle it. Usually they outgrow swaddling around 3-4 months. I have the book that was referenced, it is great. |

thanks for your information on the swaddling, she doesn't fit in the swaddle with a receiving blanket, so i am using a swaddleme blanket and it seems to work
ok, next question - are you still feeding every 3 hours if you are breast feeding? my doc told me that my baby is robust, but she seems to be healthy and i am just wondering if there comes a time when you don't have to feed them so often. like i said, i have plenty of questions and jen stop by anytime, we can use your wisdom!

Whattup hot mamacitas? Good call on starting the thread Jamie! As for swaddling, PJ LOVES it! He outgrew the swaddling pieces we got him as a baby so DH (my pro swaddler) uses a super stretchy blanket we got at Babies R Us...works like a charm! Also the eddie bauer sling we got at target is prettyclose to a swaddler too! Calms him down everytime, in fact he's in it now!

My son hates to be swaddle and he sleep very well with it. thanks for starting up the thread.
Sadly I wasn't able to breast feed because he would throw it up. If you use formula how much is your baby eating and how often do you feed? He eats 4-6 oz every 3-4hours. |

Congratulations girls!!!! Just wanted to stop in to say hi and wish you all the best!
Billy hated being swaddled. He seemed to like it for the first week, and that was it. Regardless of whether we used a blanket or an actual swaddling outfit. He's always wanted his arms free and has slept well, so I didn't push it. One of my friends swears by the Miracle Blanket for those who have munchkins that like to be swaddled. She got it at BRU. I'm still breastfeeding. For about the first three weeks, Billy would eat every 2-3 hours. Then around three weeks he started sleeping through the night (11pm - 4:30/5am) but he'd still eat every 3 hours or so during the day. Now he's back to eating every 2 hours or so at daycare, and then the same at home until he goes to sleep from about 9pm - 5am. Good luck everyone!!!

Way to go Jamie on starting this thread!!! I posted here twice yesterday but not on of the posts are here....weird.
Swaddling, Garrett still loves to be bundled but I do it losely as he does like to move his arms and legs. If he is content to just be covered then I leave him that way but sometimes the baby just wants to be snuggled tight in his blanket.....awwwww They are so sweet all bundled up.Speaking of my little man, he is waking for a feeding - feeding every 3-4 hours these days. He sometimes sleeps longer in the daytime (5 hours at a time) but only 3-4 hours at a time at night. God love him, he was measured the other day and he is only in the 10th precentile for his height!! My little shorty...his dad and I are both short too though so little man does not have much of a chance. His weight (11lbs 6oz) and head circumference were both average. This was @ two months.

monique - my little girl is almost 11 lbs and that was at her 1 month appointment, i was told that many times breastfeed babies are more robust, i think that is her nice way of saying that she is fat, but her length and weight match up in percentiles. as for the feeding thing, i was told that a baby will sleep one long time during the day, so if you wake up the baby and feed him every 3 hours during the day and than he may have his 5 hour sleep at night and you can get a little bit more rest. i know that you aren't suppose to wake a sleeping baby but i do during the day and it seems that lyla sleeps longer at night, except last night, i ate something that really upset her stomach
![]() thanks again ladies for the information and help ![]()
