Yeay! More littleones to adore! I have to cheer...we have been having sleep issues with Reese. I really dont want her sleeping with us, but cant get her to sleep anywhere else. Well, lastnight, she slept four whole uninterrupted hours in her pack n play in our room, and another hour this morning for a nap!! Im so happy! It took dealing with alot of crying and screaming last night, but I held strong and hopefully this is a start to something great! I know one night, or really four hours, isnt much of anything, but I was so happy when I woke up at 7am and she was still asleep in there. I think the only reason she woke up was because she was too warm. I had a nightgown on her, and had tried swaddling her tightly, which is what worked, but realized later that the blanket I used to swaddle was a little too warm. So, trial and error, we try again tonight Next on the list is getting the little bugger to fall asleep without the breast. I want her to be able to fall asleep on her own without needing a nipple in her mouth. That one is giong to be MUCH harder though, because when she's screaming her head off, I know that if I just latch her on, she would be out in seconds. Thats awful tempting at 3am but I can do it, and WILL do it before I go back to work in four weeks. Its just hard to watch her cry so hard knowing exactly what she wants, but not wanting to give it to her. Its not that she's hungry, she barely sucks at all, and is asleep in probably less than two minutes. But again, I can do this!! Any suggestions, LOL?

We have a doctors appt for her in the morning to try and figure out why she's spitting everything up, both formula and breast milk. we are guessing reflux, but we will see. Hopefully we figure something out. Hope everyone is doing great!!

Jo one thing that we do with Hyaden every night is give him a bath the same time every night. I have gone 2 nights since he has been born without giving him a bath and it makes a big difference. He sleeps so much better when we do. Good job with getting her to sleep in the pack and play, i to cant stand to him him cry, breaks my heart. Keep up the good work, you are strong, you can do this! Let me know what is said about the spitting up since we are having the same problem.

Linteac, Kendall is so darm cute!!

Hello Everyone

Hello Ladies,

My name is Ella and I belong to the October Big Pumpkin Tummies Thread. Thanks Jo for inviting us to this thread. I love all the baby pics.

My little boy Brian was born on September 22nd. He was 6lbs 4oz and 20 inches long. He had slight Jaundice - his levels were at 12.5 and normal levels are supposed to be 10.5 and lower. Our pediatrician said that it is due to his weight. He had a hard time gaining weight in the first 10 days. Tomorrow we will have our third visit to the pediatrician and see if we made progress at all.

I have a question to all of you. Yesterday I had a scare with little Brian. I held him in the football hold position for breastfeeding and he choked on my milk. I freaked out because he didn't breathe for a few minutes. I searched the internet and found a few mommies with the same problem. I was wondering if any of you observed this and how you handled it.

looking forward to meet all the other Fall 09 mommies!

Sleeping Issues

Just saw the posts about the sleeping issues. We have the same problems with little Brian. He hates to sleep in his crib, the only time he falls asleep is on my breast. As soon as I put him to his pack'n'play or his crib he is wide awake. He prefers my chest and the bouncer for some reason. Also, other than sleeping and feeding he cries. We couldn't find a solution to it yet.

We watched and read the Happiest Baby on the Block and used some of the techniques. Also we bought the CD that Kimbev just mentioned. The techniques seem to help a little bit but we haven't tried the CD yet. I am with most of you, up until 3-4 months I don't think I will be spoiling him so I will make him sleep on my chest as much as I can for now.

Hello Ella! My daughter does the same thing with the choking, both at the breast and when we are supplementing. All I can do is promptly sit her up, I pull her arms up above her head and I pat her back pretty hard, like Im burping her. She still doesnt take a breath for several VERY LONG seconds and it takes a year off my life everytime she does it, but she goes right back to eating once she catches her breath. I think its because her suction is soooo strong. Even with super slow-flow nipples, milk pours out of her mouth. Other than that, Im not sure what to do about it. We have a pediatricians appt tomorrow and I plan on asking her about it. I will let you know what they say.

LITTLEBEAN-I will definately try the bath technique, thanks for sharing!!!

Hi -

My name is Kari, and I am also on the January BFP thread with Zappy (Wendy). I just had my little IVF miracle, Lily Grace, 2 weeks ago! I was induced 3 weeks early, due to low amniotic fluid, but all went well, and she is just a doll! We love every minute with her. I just smile and stare at her all day!

We did struggle quite a bit with breastfeeding. Because she was early, the lactation consultant said it is really difficult for her to breastfeed at the rate that she needs to in order to thrive. She lost weight after I breastfed in the hospital, and so they put her on formula and pumped breastmilk. I've been pumping since, and meeting her demands, but I'm starting to worry that my supply of breastmilk won't meet what she needs soon. I'm taking the herb Fenugreek, based on my lactation consultant's suggestion. I'm pumping every 4 hours. Does anyone have any tips on increasing milk supply when you are pumping? I try to breastfeed her also, and occasionally she's very interested, but mostly, she's sleepy or goes so slow, that she just isn't getting enough. Any ideas would be much appreciated!!!

Here are some pictures of Lily!

Thanks,
Kari

Kari...Lily is adorable...I too only pump and I am also taking Fenugreek. I have not noticed any difference since taking the pills and I have been taking them for 2 weeks now. I am not able to meet Kendall's demand now that she is up to 4 oz. at every feeding, so I have to supplement. Actually she is getting mostly formula and only about 2 bottles of breastmilk a day. It breaks my heart, but that is what I have to do so she gets enough. I wish I could help you, but I am having the same problem.

Hello all!

Hi everyone! I'm not a Fall Mommy yet but am due in 10 days, so I thought I'd start getting to know you all now (otherwise I'd be catching up on hundreds of posts with a new baby - yikes!). I am on the January BFP thread with Kari and Wendy, but I've also been following all those Big Pumpkin Tummies moms as well.

I just wanted to say hi and let you know about the holding the breath thing (I try my best NOT to be a pediatrician on this site, but sometimes it's hard when I know I have an answer that can help someone feel better about what's going on. I'll be mommy only most of the time though, I promise!) Anyway, it's actually a very good think for your LOs to hold their breath when their refluxing or choking - that way they won't aspirate the breastmilk or formula into their lungs. They'll hold their breath until they swallow the milk back down, then breathe again. That's why it's safe to put babies on their back to sleep even if they're huge spitters. I know it feels like forever when it happens (I've seen patients do it and it freaks me out, I can't imagine being mom!), and if they ever turn blue be sure you get them checked out, but overall it's a protective thing and good that they do it!

Well, I'll probably just sort of keep up at a distance until I'm an official mom, but I can't wait to join you all on this adventure! Hope all the babies gain weight well (it seemed like quite a few were just about to see the pediatrician again)!

Heather

Hi Everyone, I made it over here too. So glad we are sticking together. I'm having the same issues as most everyone here with the eating and the sleeping. Hopefully it will get a little better soon.

Well, here is a recent picture of Brooke.
