JO- is there any trick you used to get Reese in the crib?? Lyla still wont sleep anywhere but on my chest or just holding her!! I tried the bassinet no luck!

Tisha-I finally pulled out the Kiddopotamus Swaddle I got at my shower. It looks like a little straight jacket for babies. I have heard from many many places to swaddle at night, and not to swaddle during the day to make a night time distinction. I was trying to swaddle Reese in a normal blanket, but she HATES having her arms swaddled, and without the arms, she would bust out immediately. I think having her arms not swaddled is what was waking her up, her startle instinct. So anyways, I swaddled her in the kiddopotamus swaddle (Kiddopotamus: Products: SwaddleMe) and put her arms in it. She can NOT get out of it, which initially really pissed her off. But then I put her to the breast and rocked her in the glider. Within minutes, she was OUT! Im talking snoring, snorting, nothings going to wake her up out. She was so happy and satisfied, it was crazy. I then put her on her side with her back to the back of the crib, so she wouldnt roll on to her back and startle. She made it four hours until she woke up hungry. I was shocked!!! I dont think she moved a single muscle once she got used to the swaddle. She still freaks out when I put her in it to start, but once I give her a bottle or put her to the breast, shes as content as can be. I do feel a little bad as it really does seem like a baby straight jacket, but she seems to feel really secure in it.

MIA-My pediatrician told me to mix the breast milk with the formula, so Im sure its perfectly fine for you to be doing it. I doubt it would upset his tummy, especially if full portions of formula dont.

LINTEACH-All i can say is "bow-chicka-wow-wow" get your groove on and enjoy your date night!!! even if all you do is sleep, its going to be soooo wonderful! I am so jealous! My mom offered to watch Reese so we can have a date night, but I told her we might as well wait until I have the green light to have sex and make the date night/sitter worth it

SONI-Im loving those pictures! He has the most gorgeous hair and features!! So adorable!

oh let me tell you the swaddlers are the best thing they ever came up with, i had a nurse show me how to swaddle my son when i had him 20 yrs ago and he was sleeping through the nite in no time..in fact i couldn't wake him up to feed he was so comfy and the pediatrician said that as long as his weight was good and he's progressing then to let him sleep through the nite...and that was by 4 wks old...i just hope my Olivia follows the same way...

I picked up the book "happiest baby on the block" tonight, Im excited to read it!

Reese is sleeping in her crib again! Last night, she made it four hours and woke up hungry. Had I not been to lazy to get out of bed to put her back in her crib, I think she would have made it all night long, so tonight, Im not going to be so lazy, lol.

Jo- OH MY GOSH I have one of those swaddler things and I just put it on her after I fed her and she is sound asleep in her bassinet we will see how the rest of the night goes but oh my gosh im so excited thank you soooo much!!! At first she was a little mad but she quickly fell asleep oh gosh I just hope this works pray for me girls lol

Lin-Have fun on your date night!!

Well tonight we are going to put Sadie back in her bassinet, in the boppy. She will not sleep on her back. I have been trying during the day to let her nap on her back, she just sleeps so much better propped up. I'm used to her sleeping in our bed and I'm a little sad that she will be sleeping in her bassinet all by herself

I'm glad your little ones are starting to sleep better with the swaddling. I also have the swaddle blankets and I love them. But I do let Brooke's arms stay out. She gets really mad if she can't put her hands to her mouth. But she has been sleeping okay in her crib or bassinet. She has made it a few nights about 4-6 hours. Of course, it starts around 7 or 8 and by the time I get to bed around 11:30, I am still getting only the 2.5 to 3 hours. Then after the middle of the night feeding, usually around 2-4, she is up for a 5-7 feeding. She isn't really on a schedule so she is up anywhere between those hours.
I'm having two other issues with her.

1. Her head is getting REALLY FLAT in the back. I try to move her head from side to side but she always goes right back to laying flat and straight ahead. Not sure what to do.

2. I have noticed for a couple days now that she is swallowing really strangely. She makes big gulps and it looks like it is hard for her to swallow. She was even having a hard time taking the bottle; kind of like she couldn't figure out how to suck on the nipple, even though she has been using these bottles for a while now. I also noticed she has a white residue on her tongue and I am starting to wonder if she has thrush or the white residue is just accumulated milk. I think I am going to have to take her to the dr. on Monday.

I also have given her gripe water in one of her bottles and it seems to actually calm her down. I have only tried this twice so far but I am thinking it works. She goes into her really fussy hours and once I give that to her, she seemed to calm down.

Not sure if she is having reflux pains but she gets the hiccups quite often and she will just start screaming and she seems like she is in pain. Last time I was at the dr., he gave me a prescription for Zantac, just in case and now I am thinkiing I should try it and see if that helps. She doesn't really spit up all that often but she just looks like she is in pain from time to time; even after she has been burped and it is usually about an hour or so after she eats.

Well the swaddle blanket was short lived Lyla starting freaking out that she couldnt have her hands in her mouth and started screaming bloody murder!! I took her out and it took me almost 20 mins to calm her down!! and now she wont let me put her back in it So here she lies on my chest sound asleep oh well I will just have to try something else!

Kathy- Sadie gets the hiccups ALL the time. Sometimes she will be sleeping and she will hiccup 3 times and they will go away, its the strangest thing.

How can I get Sadie to go to bed at a resonable time??? She has been going to bed around 10pm-12am. I don't know how to get her to go to bed earlier. Any suggestions? Is it too early to sleep train??

TISHA-Maybe try kathipies suggestion and swaddle her with her arms out? If she's really upset with the swaddle right now, maybe wait a day or two? I really hope something works for you soon hun!

Kathipie-Reese makes those really gurgly difficult sounding swallows too and weird suckles, and I have noticed that this is when she has a burp stuck somewhere, and even if it takes me 10 minutes, I almost always find one, and then she goes back to swallowing normal, and suckling normal too. Maybe try that? She also has some whiteness to her tounge, but I think thats milk. It doesnt seem thick at all, or to bother her. What is gripe water? Ive never heard of it and am intrigued

KT09-Maybe try backing up her bedtime by 10 or 15 minutes every night so its not such a huge adjustment for her? Im not sure, just throwing it out there. Hopefully others have some suggestions that might work for you. Good luck!!

Gripe water is a natural product that includes fennel and ginger. I've heard about it before when my first daughter was little but I never tried it. I had it in the parent's survival kit that my sister bought me. It is by Little Tummies, so I decided to give it a try. She seems to like it. I have used it twice so far in one of her bottles during the day and it seemed to calm her down after about 20 minutes of taking the bottle. Not sure if it is a coincidence but I will keep doing that anyway.

They also sell it in the health food stores. It's about 8-10 dollars.

Tisha-Ive just finished reading the book "Happiest Baby on the Block" by Dr. Harvey Karp. I got it for $15 at Babies R Us. I HIGHLY suggest it. I feel so excited about everything Ive read. I really suggest you try and find a copy, its soothed tons of my fears and there are so many suggestions in it, and so much reasoning behind the suggestions that there has to be something in there that will work for Reese. Im excited for bedtime now! Anyways, just thought I would throw that out there

Katipie-What is the gripe water supposed to be used for, just a soothing thing, or upset belly thing? Im going out shopping here in a littel while and will look for some. thanks!

Jo- the bottle says it is for colic and hiccups. But I know that people eat fennel for upset stomachs and ginger is also supposed to be good for that as well.

Hi Ladies...well my DH and I had a great night away last night. I did miss my little Kendall dearly, but I knew she was in great hands with grandma and grandpa. I am very fortunate that Kendall has been sleeping in her crib since 2 weeks old. She doesn't mind it at all. She sleeps a good 3-31/2 hours at a time in it. Grandma did spoil her last night though. She said that Kendall didn't want to sleep in her crib so she had her in the bassinett right next to her bed. (Not going to happen tonight!!) I am a little sad...I go back to work in 2 WEEKS!!! It makes me sad to know that I won't be with her all day. Ok...can't think about it or I will start to cry!!!
