BRU & Baby Bottles with BPA

Ok guys. I read on this site Freebies 4 Mom: BPA-free Bottle Update that some BRUs are accepting used bottles that contain BPA as returns without the original packagain and without a receipt and in exchange giving you a store credit for them.

So far some folks have had luck in several BRUs throughout the country but others have not. Read the article and comments to see if any of the ones who have been successful are near you if in case you want to attept to return your bottles. One lady said she was told that in her upstate NY BRU they were not accepting returns but the BRUs in the NYC area or closest to the NYC area were so I am going to call and see if the flagship BRU located at Union Square in NYC is accepting and then I will be running to return my Avemt and my Playtex Ventaire bottles.

Today I actually started using the Evenflo plastic tinted baby bottles that contain no BPA and Gabriel took to them just fine. These are the ones I am using now Evenflo 3 Pk 8 Oz Tinted Bottles - BPA Free - Evenflo - Babies "R" Us for the price you cannot go wrong

Anyway just thought I would share this info and see if anyone else has had any luck with their BRU store.

Hugs!!

Most of Dr. Brown's bottles do contain BPA, but they have started selling polypropylene ones that do not. From what I have seen on BRU's website, they only come in 8oz. size though.

Yes Dr. Brown bottles do contain BPA. Here is a site that has info on all bottles as to whether or not they contain BPA.

Thanks for the info Elsa. It's a little too late for us...Tristan is transitioning to cups now since he will be 1 very soon.
On another note...I don't know if I buy the whole BPA thing though....these have been used for years even by our generation and look, we're all fine!! I also read somewhere that BPA is in most plastic utensils/cups/plates, & water bottles that we use. Truth be told we used a truck load of these plastic cup & plates when we bough Tristan home to ease our housework load. I had thought about switching to Bornfree when I first had Tristan but we had some many Avent and Playtex bottles we just used those, maybe we'll try bornfree with the next one.

We really tried hard in the beginning. We bought some glass bottles to try out. It just made it impossible for feedings. They are so heavy and once the girls can start holding their bottles on their own, I would be afraid they might hurt themselves. So, we switched over to evenflo. They liked these bottles better anyway.

Hi Jess!!! I hope you are having a nice weekend!!

I agree with you and for the reasons you stated I did not drive myself bonkers running out of my house buying all new bottles when the news hit about the BPA in bottles.

The Avent bottles we have we stopped using them when Gabe was one month old due to them giving him massive amount of gas and making his colic so much worst. I use to hear his gulping down so much air with each suck and that was with the smallest nipple size they make plus the rings leaked. We switched him to Playtex Ventaire and they helped him a lot.

I have been wanting new bottles for Gabe since I was sick of washing the Playtex Ventaire bottles with all those pieces it has and I wash by hand his bottles so you can imagine how tired I was of washing them so now that his colic has passed I was willing to try these Evenflo basic, back in the day, bottles and so far so good. Also they are so much skinnier than the wide neck bottles that it will be so much easier for Gabriel to hold them plus my God how easy are they to wash For $2.99 for a 3 pack you just cannot go wrong.

Hey Elsa...our weekend is uneventful, hubby is working today..how bout your weekend?
"back in the day bottle" LOL...that is the best way to desribed them. I hear ya bout the billion pieces to wash with the Ventaire and we only recently got a dishwasher so we washed them by hand too but they were the best for the gas. The Avent always leaks for hubby but not me lol but surprisingly Tristan has been able to hold all his bottles without a problem but I found Avent is the only one that makes an 11 oz bottle which works well when Tristan is not in a mood to eat (we can put his baby food, cereal, and formula in it without it spilling over).
My mom always comments about how so many things are now "fancy" and how the weren't that way back in the days or they didn't have them at all when we were kids and how she did fine and we all came out fine so all this "extra" isn't really needed. I think they're maybe something to it lol.

My weekend has also been uneventful which I was happy about I did some much needed gardening and today will try to catch up on some work.

I also have the 11oz Avent bottles and I use them to mix his formula in which they say is safe to do its when you heat their food in them when the BPA may leak out or if they are all scratched up.

Hugs!!!

Well there are several plastic #s that are considered safe and I am trying to find online where I had seen the list to determine which were safe. As soon as I find it I will post the link here.
