Bumper question

Has anyone put the bumper back in the crib? Kyleigh is getting her legs stuck through the slats in the bed. I called and ask her doctor and she said just put her bumper back in the bed. I am nervous to do that. So tell me what you guys have done.

I never used a bumper at all. I wouldn't advise putting it back in because the bigger she gets, the more likely she will use it to stand on and climb out of the crib with.

They sell breathable bumpers which are like mesh - it would stop her from sticking her legs through and I don't think she could stnad on them - not wide enough.

Good luck!!

I haven't used them but would look in to breathable bumpers. I have heard many good things about them!

Not to hijack the thread but why did you stop using your bumper? My pediatrician is adament about always having a bumper in the crib, I was just advised to push it down so that it wasn't sitting on the mattress but tuck it in so that it's just a couple inches above the mattress.

AAP is now saying no bumpers for safety; they can lodge their face into it and not breath...I found C face planted into hers one morning and out it came that second. They haven't strongly said no bumpers but are not as in favor as they used to be. Even facing near them can build up CO2 is what I've read and when I found her doing exactly what they were talking about it scared me to death, she wasn't rolling over yet but scooching around the crib a lot so maybe about 4 months?

I do have bumpers, but I think I'm going to buy the breathable kind soon. Brady is 6 months is all over his crib. He's like a clock, round and round he goes all night. It's really funny. He also likes to sleep on his side now with his head arched back, he's actually almost on his stomach and a few times I noticed him getting really close to the bumper with his face. It makes me so nervous, so I think it's time for a change. I don't want to take them out completely, I'd be afraid that he would get his hands, feet or any other body part stuck! ouch

Eventually we will be lowering his crib down so the bumpers will be a lot lower and I also tuck them down a little too.

Jill- That is precisely why I bought mine and we could not go without one as he got his arms and legs stuck between the bars.

Y'all are smart: I ditched the bumpers as I said and then three days later, out comes an arm during the night, a leg at nap etc. so off to BRU, which may as well be in NY near AM; she didn't hurt herself but I could see it happening. But then again, what CAN'T I imagine happening to her, right?

Jen -

I'm curious about why your peds feels so strongly about using one? I had heard and read that the AAP was now advising against crib bumper pads, as Megsc mentioned, and thought that is why the breathable ones had become so popular. But I'm no peds, so I was curious what yours had to say.

Per the request of our Pedi, we took the bumpers out. After we removed them Wyatt began to get his arms and feet/legs stuck in the crib slats, and he would be unable to move; which scared me to death. We bought some breathable bumpers and a breathable mattress cover/sheet. Having them really gives me a lot of piece of mind at night. I bought mine on Ebay because our BRU never had them in stock.

This is why we took ours out. No matter how far down I would tuck the thing she would still get it up far enough to get a leg or arm under it.
