The 2nd scariest moment of my life; Joshie's first seizure
Yesterday my mom and I took Joshie to the doctor because for about 3 days straight, he kept spiking a temp...dr. diagnosed a "lung infection" and gave him Zithromax. After we got done at the Dr. office, we went out to eat about 2 blocks away...when we came out of the restaurant, I set Joshie on the ground by the car in his carseat and then I noticed his eyes rolling and deviated to the far left and he turned gray. I flipped out and started shaking him and shouting his name...he was "gone" for about 10 seconds then he blinked his eyes and looked at me. I called the Dr. and they said to bring him back in. What had apparently happened was that his fever shot up sometime during us eating resulting in a "febrile seizure".
To look at him now you'd think nothing happened. It was my 2nd scariest moment as a parent, the first scariest moment being when Brad was 2 weeks old and he had some sort of spell where he was completely unresponsive, cold, and limp. It was determined that his was due to severe dehydration because of being under the bili lights for 4 days with no I.V. (wonderful rural band-aid station local hospital). If he has another one I'm to take him to the hospital. It was really scary to witness, although I see it all the time at the nursing home...still when it happens to your own child, very scary! Blessings, Michelle

Sorry you and Joshie had to experience this. I can only imagine how scary it was! It may bring you comfort to know that I had 3 febrile seizures when I was under a year old. I had a few more fainting spells as I grew up, but no more febrile seizures. They're pretty common and most kids outgrow them quickly. Good luck to you both!

Oh Michelle, this definitely is a scary situation. My cousin started having seizures at 9 months old - she'll be 16 this year. Unfortunately because our band aid local hospital (we'll NEVER go there) didn't really know how to handle it in such a small child they really messed her up. She still has seizures quite often, she has the brain capacity of a one year old (can say few words, clap her hands, walk). So do watch this and be sure that you are going to medical professionals that you trust. They originally said her's were febrile seizures as well, 14 years later she was finally diagnosed with Rhett's (I think that's how it's spelled) Syndrome. I'm not trying to scare you further, just want to share our story.

Just got done talking to our pedi...he actually called me himself and asked how Joshie was...I just love our pedi now.
He is still running a low grade temp around 100-101...he has had 2 doses now of the Zithromax, which I think is giving him diarrhea too (when it rains, it pours eh?). I am alternating Tylenol and Motrin so he gets something for the fever every couple of hours. I'm supposed to work 12 hour shifts this weekend, both days...but I called my boss and told her what was going on and that if he seizes again, we're to take him to either the pedi or the hospital. She was very understanding and is going to try to find someone now that can come in if I need to leave. My period just started but I'm not calling my clinic with all this Joshie stuff going on...we'll just have to wait til next month for our IUI. I was up all night checking on Joshie and checking his temp and waking him up to give him fever reducers. So he is really tired and so am I...his eyes look tired to me if that makes sense. To top it all off, my dad, who stays here during the week, was just diagnosed with walking pneumonia (the pedi assured me that Joshie's infection didn't come from Grandpa) so I am taking care of 2 sick family members now. It is exhausting but whatever I need to do, I'll just do it and go on. Thanks everyone for listening and responding! Blessings, Michelle

When something happens to our babies, all our nursing goes right out the window, doesn't it? Your his Mom, not his nurse, and I think I would have reacted the same way you did.
I hope Josh is feeling better and he doesn't have any more seizures. Take care of you both (and g-pa too) and get some rest.

Oh, you poor thing! I can't imagine going through that! I know that was my biggest fear because DH suffered from that when he was a baby and I am still scared that it will happen to our girls. I hope your family gets better soon. You'll be in my prayers.

Well, now Joshie is covered from head to toe (literally, the worst place is on the bottom of his foot) in red bumps. I've already called the pedi and they want to see him tomorrow morning at the urgent care clinic to see if this is an allergic reaction to the Zithromax. He is also sleeping quite a bit, more so than usual.
He also had some sort of "spell" with dh watching him this morning...he sort of "spaced out" is what dh calls it. I also told this to the nurse on call and she said if he does it again to take him directly to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. So we aren't out of the woods yet...(sigh) I just want my little normal boy back! Blessings, Michelle
