Hello ladies, thanks for the kind words...it means so much...the meds are working and bringing me back on track but i am concerned about my poor DH also. He has to handle this mentally. Though Eva is fine...i sometimes gets this shopping urge and yesterday itself took along Eva and shopped...Later i thought that i could have been avoided but somehow i couldn't control myself. Then i have been eating choclate pastries like hell and at the back of my mind i have this thought that i have to get back into shape but cant resist...I hate my post pregnancy belly bulge!!! The meds are on till 30 June and hopefully i would be back to my normal self. Thanks for reading.

Evita so happy to hear you are feeling better.
Weird but I also went shopping and still do just to get out of the house and feel better. I dont think it was so much the shopping but just getting out that made me feel better and still does I also ate to feel happy especially choco even though I kept thinking I needed to lose weight. What you are going through is so normal at least I think it is and I am sure you and your DH will come out of this stronger and just perfectly fine. Hugs!!

I think you are very brave to discuss this. You are helping many other new moms who are in your situation just by sharing your story. I am glad you are feeling better and hope you keep getting better everyday.

I have gone through this, too. I have NOT lost my baby weight (I still weight about 15 lbs. more than when I got pregnant) and I too find myself using shopping as a way to feel better. I have been on an antidepressant for about 9 months now. I think I'm ready to taper off as I think much of my dissatisfication with life is situational. But when I had Harmony, certainly the life change is stressful, but I just felt that "funk" - not like myself at all - and couldn't pinpoint any real reason for it. That was strange for me. I'm a clinical social worker and have been in therapy myself in the past for depression, but never was on meds before. I understand how situations and negative thinking impact how we feel, but this didn't really feel like that to me. (other than the stress of new mommy-hood). Anyway.... hope you feel better soon. I don't always log-in everyday, but do several times a week if you want to PM me.

I too agree that you are very brave Evita for bringing this up so that others as well can know that it is normal and that they can talk about it and get support if wanted on this forum. I too am a social worker and I can't express enough how important it is that women get support .... Back in the "olden days" mom stayed home and had a support system to get through the stress of brining a baby (or babies) home. Not that I think working isn't wonderful (Hey, I miss it), but my point is the support now a days is only on line and when the family pops in and out. We have such a hard time asking for what we need these days ....I hope that the meds continue to help, and if once you are off you need to go back on, go for it and don't feel like a failure ~ you need to trust your heart. Old Navy has been my best friend, and I had chocolate and strawberries last night for a snack , and yes I am still over weight, it's getting gross......

the fact that you took baby w/ you shopping, sounds right on track w/ me. now if you had the urge (and followed thru) to leave her home alone, that would be worrisome. I always found that getting out once a day (even just for a walk) was very important to my mental health-- and my dr suggested getting more exercise which i'm accomplishing through a moms workout group (motivation to go, otherwise i'd wouldn't) It's very important to take care of yourself both mentally and physically and new babies can send us into quite a tailspin! I hope you find yourself back to your old self soon.

Evita- As of today I am with you. I have been fighting even talking to my dr for months but finally went in today and broke down. I read Brooke Shields book, and while mine is not severe like hers was, I can relate. I think that my issues stem from the early delivery, weeks in the NICU having my dd that went through surgery a few months back, and she was recently diagnosed with Aspergers syndrome, and life in general. I love my kids but a lot of the times I feel overloaded, sad, angry and would rather sleep than do anything. Know that you are not alone. I have been put on Zoloft. I will let you know how that works in a few days.

That's a beautiful picture, evita! i think you look fabulous!
Something funny happened to me yesterday when I went shopping for an evening dress (for my high school reunion later this month). The saleslady was helping me pick dresses and looked at me said, are you about a size 6? I laughed and said, 'Thanks, sweetie! But I'm a 12." LOL!!! And I'm a big 12, so to speak. Keep us posted, evita. It does get better. Angie

I found that joining a gym was the best thing for me after I had Teagan and was home all day. They have a great daycare there and will watch the kids for up to 2 hours, so I'd run, take a pilates class, and get a shower in if there was time. It was something to get me out of the house in the morning, I got a little time alone and I felt better about myself that I was working out again and I got to take a shower which we all know is not the easiest thing to do with a baby around! It sounds like you're taking the right steps though I hope you feel better!
