Unhappy I didn;t expect this but....

So ladies, i have been MIA for a while and have been diagnosed as having post partum depression. I am on anti depressants for two weeks since yesterday and after that the psy will review the sitiation. My only concern is my daughter as i am not being able to take good care of her though there is help at hand. I am scared that this might effect her in some way. DH is very supportive and we are just tring to make our ends meet. I would be a little regular on the forum as the group has always been very supportive.

Oh Evita, I'm so sorry to hear that you have now been diagnosed with post partum depression. I have heard that it's not easy. Thankfully there is help at hand so that you can concentrate on yourself and getting back to yourself. While it might effect Eva now she'll never remember it, this isn't going to affect her for long. Take care!

Evita, so sorry you are dealing with. I hope your recover ASAP. I had a mild case of it since my son was colic but did not need meds so I cannot imagine how hard this must be. Rest assure you will be fine soon and your daughter will not be effected nor will she ever remember this!! I am so happy you have help with your daughter!!

It's OK Evita and PPD is a lot more common that most people think. You have done the right thing for your family by seeking treatment. We are all here if you need some support.

Evita
I had PPD with my first so I can completely understand. It does get better, I promise and my dd is almost 9 and has no memory of this period. She just asked me yesterday how old was she when she started walking so they have no memory from such a young age and her "memories" of these really young years will be whatever you tell her, or have on video or in pics (which I’m sure will be happy ones).

Evita we are all here for you and your little girl knows her Mommy loves her and that is enough for her. A good friend of mine went through the same and one day called to say it was as if the fog had lifted and the sun was shining again. I hope that sunshine breaks through for you soon.

Evita: You came to the right place! I had this when Bradley was born and I had it a little worse when we got Joshie. I was placed on Wellbutrin and while it helps, what really helped me the most was to hire a part time sitter (she came at least 2 days/week) for the first few MONTHS. Yes, months! My biggest hurdle was the fact that I couldn't just pick up and go to the store, or go out with the girls etc. All my planning had to be around Joshie's hours etc. It really helped having someone there a couple days a week so I could go "do my thing" even if I just went walking in a local park or something.

I'm still on my meds too, but now that Joshie is older and gets around more on his own and is actually understanding most words and responding, I'm doing a lot better.

I hope this makes sense; oh, a really good book to read about all this is Brooke Shield's "Down Came the Rain" it is excellent. I've checked it out twice now from our library and may even buy it, LOL!

Anyway, just wanted you to know that you aren't alone and if there is anything I can do or if you just need to vent, feel free to either PM me or ask here!

Blessings, Michelle

Thanks Ladies for your kind words...it really helps to see that i am not the only one wo had gone through this turmoil...I feel sad when my daughter just lies down there in her cot quietly and i cant play with her. I am groggy due to the meds. Though she responds well to two babysitters i have hired. I wish DH plans out a vacation for DD and me to a distant place or a different country. I think seeing new surroundings will give me peace of mind. Just some funny thoughts...plesae dont mind...

You are not alone Evita. I too had a little bit of PPD with my first. My ds was severly colicky! Between him crying most of the day and the thought of wanting things to go back to "normal", I was sad. I never went on meds. I guess maybe I should had but I came out of it soon after I stopped nursing him. I think I put a lot of pressure trying to nurse a colicky baby. It was only making me more stressed and anxious.
That is wonderful that you have as much help as you can. Don't feel guilty for relying on them. Taking care of yourself first is the key to being a better and happy mother! Take care hun and know that we are all here for you.

I think that it is very common to feel this way. After the girl's were born I was in a funk myself. Your life changes, you are tired and it is only natural for you not to feel good all of the time! I got on Zoloft prior to getting pregnant (I was really down during the whole IF process and was sad and felt bad all of the time) so I just got back on the meds and I feel so much better. Everyone always comments that they can believe that I am so calm and able to handle two babies as well as I do. I think that it helps me deal with them and life a lot better. Hope that you feel better soon... and please keep us updated with your progress!
