Question Do I really have PCOS

Well, I think I should look for a second opinion.

I am 23 and have been diagnosed with PCOS about four months ago. The doctor did blood work, an ultrasound, and tested my glucose levels. The bloodwork showed that my ratio for horomones were 4:1, the ultrasound showed that my ovaries were 44cm and very bulky, but the technician omitted PCOS. The glucose test came back normal.

I have all the opposite symptoms of PCOS. I am not over weight, I have timess were I never get my period but when I do it lasts for months at a time. I was told that I am ovulating too much. My ovaries are bulky because I have eggs in all stages and I release any where from 1 to 40 a month.

I have had three pregnancies, and three miscarriages. This was all before this was diagnosed. I have no problem getting pregnant at all. I am able to plan it and when I try four weeks later I am pregnant. Anyway, the first pregnany was a missed miscarriage. I was suppose to be 16 weeks, but then started bleeding and found out I was actually only five and a half weeks. The second miscarriage I miscarried at eight and a half weeks. The third miscarriage I got tested and it was a faint positive, I was told to go back a week later. A week to the day I was laid up in bed with severe cramping, and bleeding.

I was told that because I am ovulating so much, that this is the cause of my miscarriages. That I am releasing eggs all the time, and when this happens if the fertilized egg hasn't attached far enough into the uterus wall it gets swept out when my body decides to have a period.

I haven't tried to get pregnant yet. My doctor has me on birth control to get my periods regulated, as well as Metformin.

Everyone I talk to about PCOS has all the opposite symptoms then I do. All the tests I have had state that it isn't PCOS, except the hormone levels. I am not over weight or growing excess hair.

Anyone who might have any suggestions please feel free to email me, as I am very confused and would like some help with maybe getting a better understanding on PCOS.

Hi:

I am not a professional, but as far as I know there are many different symptoms for PCOS. I do not know if ovulating too much is one of them. The only thing I know is that homons dissorders (which is the case of PCOS) produce many different symptoms.

In my case, I do not have a problem getting pregnant either; when I ovulate (4 or 5 times a year) i become pregnant. I have had three pregnancies and three misscarriages too (one with IVF to prevent bad quality of embrios).. I took metformin the last two pregnancies and it only helped me gettin hypoglicimia and feeling terrible.

I am not overweight, do not have trouble w/facial hair or anything different than irregular periods and misscarriages. I am 29.

My advice would be to ask for a second oppinion, that is what i am going to do myself in the future. At the same time I am using alternative medicine to try to deal with PCOS, something that doesn´t have secondary effects as metformine.

OOh, the most important thing, I decided to adopt!

Best of luck to you

Pat

Get as many opinions as you want. I am sure it wouldn't hurt. You might find a dr who actually knows what he/she is doing. I am so sick of these drs My last one new less about me condition than I did. I had to actually ask for my meds that I found out I needed because of the internet. Try glucophage. Made me feel better. Also I have gave up on ttc and I am taking birthcontrol which is a big help with the hormones. I do have the stuff though, the hair loss and growth, the acne, weigth and all.
Good Luck Beth,22, uu,pcos,ic

Question what tests determine PCOS

my dr ran a blood test (one that was it)while I had been spotting and siad I have PCOS. Should she have ran them at another time. My hormone levels was all she checked. I do not have cyists, at least if I do they do not show up on the 2 ultra sounds she has ran. I did find out a year later I am type 2 diabetic but it runs on both sides of my family. nearly everyone in my family has sugar problems

The cycsts may not show up on the ultrasound. I know off one women who didn't officially know about hers until they did the lap. surgery. The sugar thing is a big pcos sign. try www.pcossupport.com. Most important thing is to have a good dr. Right know I am looking for a new one again. Good luck

Hi,
Not all PCOSers have the same symptoms. There are thin PCOSers. Not all PCOSers have cysts. Some are cyst free. PCOS is actually a wide spectrum disease. The question is which hormones are in that 4:1 ratio. If it is your lutenizing hormone vs Follicle stimulating hormone then you most definately have PCOS. The levels that are found in non-PCOSers is http://www.inciid.org/faq/pcos2.html#2.10. See this following link for additional information on PCOS - http://www.inciid.org/faq/pcos.html.

If you need more info please feel free to pm me.
