insulin resistant??
Hi everyone,
Just hoping to get some input from you all. I lost my son due to pre eclampsia (He was born a preemie and unfortunately, did not survive). I went for a consultation with a specialist. After "getting my big picture" he believes that I may be insulin resistant. My question is: I had been evaluated before concieveing because I was not getting pregnant. Wouldn't they have found out if I was IR indeed? At the beginning, they thought I may have PCOS, but this did not appear to be the case.??? Any comments would be appreciated!!! GM |

Hi,
People who have PCOS can also be insulin resistant. I went to a Reproductive Endocrinologist and he was able to diagnose me wiht PCO tendencies. I do not have full throttle PCOS, just the tendencies and it looks like I have some insullin issues. To treat this, they put you on a diabetic medicine called Glucophage or Metaphormin. I also had IF testing done with my OBGYN and he never Dx me with PCOS, but the RE was able to tell I had the tendencies just by looking at my history. So, I would make an appoitnment with an RE and see what they say. I am so sorry for your loss, I am sure you are heartbroken. Feel free to ask me anything else. You might want to check out this board http://talk.sheknows.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2 it is a board for people trying to conceinve and it is split into different forums. There is one specifically for PCOS and there are others for specific drugs you might be taking or your age group, etc. They can probably answer any question you have. Good luck! LBL ![]() |

Thank you so much for your response. I will definitely bring it up when I see my fertility people. (In a few months) Right now I am focusing on my health and reading up on adoption, which is a road we will take regardless of what happens. I think I may have the tendencies. Last time I was NOT put on the medication and I was told I didn't need any. GM PS I will def. check out that website. Thanks!! |

josiah1112 - PCOS is not just an infertility disease, it is a full spectrum disease. As a PCOSer you are at risk for diabetes, hypertension, hypothyroidism, excess hair, excess hair loss, obesity and depression to name a few. This means that even though you are not TTC you need to get it managed. PCOSers usually have at the root of all their issues hormonal imbalances. It is not the amount of each hormone but the ratios that throw our bodies off. If we do not controll the hormones and try to get them back into the appropriate ratio then the damage from PCOS will continue. Also, BCP do nothing to controll PCOS but they do controll the gynocological symptoms for a while but after you get off them it is absolute HELL though. THis is at least has been my experience.

Hi Alexa,
Thank you for your response! I actually do not have PCOS. I only seem to have the tendencies. I will be visiting an internist and nutritionist and I'll see what she thinks in terms of me having these tendencies and how to treat them. Thanks again for your response! GM |
