Low carb and low sugar diets help.
There are books that explain why the weight gain occurs and I think there is even a PCOS diet book(Barnes and Noble, i think?) |

I know somewhat how you feel. I gained 40 pounds in 2 years and had no idea why. Finally after working out for a straight month every day, I was burning over 500 calories and then lifting weights, I didn't lose a single pound, in fact I even gained weight. I finally went to the doctor and she did some tests and diagnosed me with PCOS. I was taking glucophage, by the time I got to the 5th week where I was almost at the full dosage, I was still getting really sick. I lost 11 pounds and I hadn't done a single thing but take the meds. Eventually was getting so sick that i would get dizzy, nauseous and have hot/cold flashes, so i had to stop taking the glucophage. I am trying to start up on the meds again to see if changing my carb and sugar intake changes my body's reaction to the glucophage. Hopefully it will work since I can't seem to lose weight any other way. Wish me luck!

Alysia,
The gaining of weight because of PCOS stinks!!!
Are you on Metaformin or Glucaphoge for the insulin resistent side effects? When my RE put me on that with eating low carb/low sugar diet with working out 2-3 times weekly, I lost 35lbs. in just 4 months. I also had a hard time losing weight until I went the route I mentioned. The poster is right, if you go to a book store, there are many books about PCOS and diet. Best of luck Kim |
