Question PCOS and Changing Doctors?!

Good Morning Everyone! I think I have offically diagnosed with PCOS .. As I requested that my OBGYN do BW b4 I started on Clomid and my testosterone came back elevated at a 71. I actually gained weight after going off BCP and I have some of the other "lovely" s/e such as increased facial hr. My mom also has PCOS and took Clomid however she also m/c 3x We go to the same group of docs but not same doc. My last trip to my doc I asked her just to look at my mom's medical records ( I know we are not the same person but have a lot of the same probs and her doc suggested it could at least be a starting point) she completely blew me off!! She did write me a new script for 100mg of Clomid and rushed out to see next "customer". All my mom can remember(it's been 17 yrs ago) is that she took Clomid and some kind of steriod to get PG w/ little brother.. does anybody know what the heck she is talking about?
I don't wanna make my doc mad (as when u r PG you have to see all docs in group) but I don't wanna be ignored either! I have this awful gut feeling that if/when I do get PG it will end in m/c ... If anyone has any suggestions/stories I would sure love to hear them!!

Hoping for us all a

If you're unhappy with the care and service you're receiving from your doctor, find a new one. Your health care is never something you should settle for.. it's just too important. You need someone who will listen to your concerns. With PCOS, it's best to see a Reproductive Endocrinologist (RE) if you insurance will cover it. And even if you insurance won't cover fertility treatments, some of the treatment for PCOS should still be covered since it really needs to be treated whether you're trying to get pregnant or not.

Whether you're able to see an fertility specialist or not, I also suggest having your DH tested and possibly an HSG for you.. no point in taking Clomid month after month with no results only to find out that DH has bad swimmers or that your tubes are blocked. Also, with PCOS, you should talk to your doctor (and it can be your GP, it doesn't have to be your OB since the one you're seeing isn't taking your concerns seriously) about being tested for insulin resistance. If you are insulin resistant, you will most likely be started on Metformin which for a lot of women with PCOS makes a huge difference in the regularity of their cycles.

Best of luck to you!

I agree with the above response, to see an RE asap if at all possible. Unfortunately that might require a referral from the current doc. I had a similar issue with a previous OB/GYN last year - I waited 3 months to be able to see him ( crappy HMO) to tell him we had been ttc over 20 months and I rarely got my period, and had 1 m/c. He ordered baseline b/w (normal, and I never got a phone call about it) so I made another appt (3 more months) and he looked at me like I was crazy for seeing him again about it and said "You're fine. Go make babies" And that was IT. Appointment over.

At this point I had no idea what an RE was so I didn't ask for a referral or anything I just went home and worried about what I was going to do. So, after 6 wasted months I finally got a new OB (I was livid with the former), saw them and asked straight off for an RE referral, asked for a SA for my husband and had my bloodwork sent over. NO problem at all for this OB, he even had suggestions of RE's in the area. Thank God for the internet or I wouldn't have known to do any of that!

On the first RE appt the u/s revealed some textbook perfect PCOS ovaries! Even the second OB hadn't mentioned it could be this because I don't fit any of the other symptoms and my b/w was normal. So glad I went to RE!

Also, I think they told me it was not advisable to start the Clomid until my husbands SA came back - half the time it's male factor so I would definitely ask for the semen analysis to be ordered.
