FINALLY a diagnosis & plan of action!!!!

I have been floundering for months now not knowing. I have had several different dr's say PCOS is possible, but not willing to say YES it is the problem (diagnosis).

Yesterday, I had my first appointment with a great RE!! She said it was beneficial that I took my medical records with me. From them, she made the diagnosis of PCOS. She also ordered some bloodwork -- that I had done yesterday (I had went prepared by fasting -- so that was good!) She said that we would wait until after the bloodwork results came back to make a definitive plan of action, but said it was likely that the next steps would be for my husband to have a semen analysis and me a HSG and perhaps a Laparoscopy. The dr also mentioned that part of my problem maybe some endo or other scar tissue in my pelvic region. My mother and all 3 of her sister's have had hysterectomies due to endo. I had a severe bout with my appendix when I was a child that may have caused some scarring. SO, it sounds as if there may be multiple issues, but at least she (my dr) says it's all things that can be treated.

I can't say that I am happy about the PCOS diagnosis, but what I am happy about is at least a diagnosis of something and plan of action. At least now I know this is something that can be dealt with and pregnancy isn't out of the question like I had been led to believe by previous dr's I had seen.

Thanks to everyone for the ears! I will keep you posted.

Susan

I am right there with you, except I am the first person in my family to have any fertility problems. I just did my lap surgery and I am waiting for my follow up appointment to plan the next move. I am glad you only waited a couple months to go to an RE, I had to wait almost two years due to the waiting list to be referred through the military. Best of luck to you!!

All my bloodwork has come back either normal or normal/high borderline. I go 10/24 for a HSG. From what I am reading about that, I am not all that excited about it, but if it will give me some answers, I guess it's worth it. My hubby has to have a S/A too. Not sure when that will be, we have to get that scheduled yet. SO, I guess you could say we are still in the "discovery phase" . . . . . .

I have heard so many different stories about the HSG. Mine wasn't terrible, it wasn't very comfortable either. I took 800mg of motrin about an hour before I went, and when they start doing it just breathe as evenly as you can. My husband did an S/A too. He was able to do it at home and then just take the sample in. So far this has all been an easy process. Not that I wish this situation on anybody but it's kinda nice to find somebody on here who is in about the same stage as me.

Well, I had my HSG today! What a treat that was! NOT! As bad as it may sound from reading that I did, it really wasn't as bad as I was anticipating. Basically, I just had some pressure discomfort. No major cramping or pain. Which is what I was expecting. The good news -- the dr DID NOT see any blockages -- he said everything looked open! I had some spilliage out of my fallopian tubes from the dye so that is good. I just have to wait to hear from my dr to see what the next step is.
