Thin with PCO...Anyone else relate?
I am just curious if anyone has been dx with PCO and is also very thin. I am 5'3" and 117-120 lbs. My gynocologist said that thin PCO women have a more difficult time getting pregnant for some reason. I am frustrated, because I DO get cycles (every 35-45 days) and also have positive Ovulation tests and get my period 14 days after a positive opk...So I don't know what the problem is!! My husband's SA was normal...I've tried Clomid twice--no success, and I currently was going to try femara, but after 2 days on it I chickened out and quit taking it because of all the warnings online about taking it for infertility. (Who knows what it will do to my cycle sinice I didn't take it until day 7.)
Are there any other thin women with PCO out there who can offer me some advice or sucess stories?? Thanks so much....I could really use some encouragement right now as I feel like giving up.

I am 5'3 and weigh 117 lbs. I have PCOS. Clomid did not work for me at all, neither did Femera. I did an IUI with injections and got pregnant, but it was a chemical pg. I am now into my first IVF cycle. Don't lose faith, I havent. The Dr put me on Metformin for this cycle, I pray that it works! Good luck to you!

I am 5'4" and around 110lb. I have PCOS and have irregular period (sometimes no period in 6 months). Clomid 50mg does not work for me, and tried 100mg but have terrible multiple vision side effects. So, the doctor put me on Femara. I have the dominant follicle every time, but then I need help with HCG shot so my egg will release.
I was on Femara and HCG shots last 5 months, no luck, and I will try IVF this February. I was very disappointed and discouraged with all those BFN after all the hard work. However, I am not giving up yet! From my ectopic pregnancy, I know I can get pregnant - I'm just out of luck ![]() Good luck to you!

pumpkin.pie.2008 -- After looking at your sig. it looks like we have had similiar problems with Clomid. I recently did a third round of Clomid, but found out after having lots of follies that none of them were growing and my Estradiol level wasn't very high.
I am not sure if I will do another round of Clomid at a higher dose, or if I will move on... Question for you ladies...Are you on Metformin? If so, has it helped? I get periods about every 35 days, so I think my problem is either not ovulating or ovulating late.

I'm 5'1" was around 105 lb when I got pregnant . My AF was extremely irregular..could go wthout it for 6 months too and even after that long, it would be for 2-3 days only.
I tried all kinds of cycles and treatments but what finally worked for me was IVF, after 2 failed attempts. I always thought that I don't have PCOS even though I was diagnosed with it coz they generally say u gain weight and you are generally tores , more facial hair etc and I did not have any of those symptoms. Anyways, all that apart, I hope you get successful in your attempt . Don't lose hope..many with PCOS have been mothers..you too will. ![]()

With yaers of frustration from dealing my gyn that was not aggresive enough or just pushed me aside in regards to my fertility. I decided to change and go to OB-GYN/RE instead.

anyone out there, thin with pcos for whom clomid has worked? i'm worried i'm on the wrong track.
Amy, I'm not on metformin. Should I be? Seems a lot of folks with PCOS take it, but my doctor didn't prescribe it. Maybe it's cuz my ovaries themselves don't have cysts. I just have the other symptoms.

My dr. prescribed the metformin as a "what the heck, let's try it" sort of thing. My insulin level is on the border of being slightly high. However, I have been too chicken to try taking it just yet. I get sick to my stomach easily and I am a teacher so I can't really risk it.
pumkin.pie-I too, feel like I may be on the "wrong track" as it seems like many thin women with PCOS don't have success with Clomid. I feel like I have other issues though besides ovulation...My husband's SA came back as 1% morphology but with a really high count. And..I have lots of mid-cycle spotting (my whole life), so I am not sure what that's from... I feel like I have been to the dr. so many times and never get answers. It's depressing.

Oh I see. Well, I don't seem to have any insulin issues, though I do feel some hormonal issues related to the thyroid are probably going to pop up along the way -- as my mom has these too.
Has your doc considered upping your dose of Clomid? Or is there no need since you did ovulate?

I'm 5'4 and about 115lbs. My cycle was 40 days long...consistently. Diagnosed with PCOS after much begging to the doc to check my hormones after 3 months of never having a positive ovulation test. Supposedly Femara is supposed to have a higher success rate of ovulation with PCOS than clomid (some people are resistant to clomid) by producing one or two good follicles instead of multiple ones- and it is supposed to help with the endometrial lining. But I've been going on a year now and with 6 ovulatory cycles (3 IUIs), but all were
. Doc isn't terribly optomistic . PCOS sucks. |

Hi ladies. I hope you don't mind if I join this discussion. I too am a thin cyster. I'm 6' 170 lbs. To be honest, I'm not really sure I have PCOS. My ovaries sure do act like it. But apparently my hormones never got the memo because they're ALL within the normal range! I'm pretty sure I do ovulate, though I'm not sure of the quality of the egg. I have a period every 30 to 60 days. That said, if I eat well and don't drink much, my cycles are pretty consistantly 30 to 40 days. I only did one cycle of Clomid because it made my lining too thin. I only did two cycles of Femara because I grew too big of follies (24 and 30 mm) too fast on it. After that my husband had some health problems that lowered his sperm count and made money tight. So we went back to trying to old fashioned way for all of 2008. To be honest with you, I harbored a secret belief that if we just tried long enough on our own, a spontaneous pregnancy would happen. I mean, I'm ovulating, his S/A was good - what more is there, right? Obviously not.
We have a phone consult for our IVF (out of state) next week and I'm really excited to FINALLY be moving toward something with a possiblity of success. That said, I'm very worried about it not being successful. From what I understand, the long lupron protocol is pretty good for PCOS'ers as the extra supression helps to get mature eggs. But I've also read about a lot of PCOS'ers getting OHSS - which, if my reaction to the Femara is any indication - is certainly a possibility.

I saw this thread and wanted to send an email that there can be hope for thin PCOS ladies taking clomid. I am 5'7 120lbs. I have a three year old DD who I conceived after three rounds of clomid at 100mg.
We have now been TT for #2 for 18 months with one miscarriage (natural conception) and 7 rounds of clomid. I conceived my daughter on 100 mg of clomid but when we started trying for #2 the doc put me on 50mg. Although I had confirmed ovulation five of the seven months I didn't get prego. RE thinks this is because 50 mg was too low of a dose for me. I have now taken a seven month break from clomid and have been on metformin 1000mg for three months, while working out (trying to lower testosterone levels) and hope this will make a difference. I have officially been diagnosed with PCOS and one "possible" blocked fallopian tube. My new RE is recommending we try three more rounds of clomid at 100 mg before moving to injectables or IVF. I start clomid days 3 -7 today. I will do ultrasound monitoring and injection shots to trigger ovulation assumming I ovulate. I am worried I have been on clomid too long for it to still be effective. Has one taken it for over six months and gotten prego? There is clomid hope my DD is proof. I can relate to how depressing this whole process can be, however, with one after another. If anyone has clomid questions I am happy to report back what I find out from the doc.Good luck |

Clomid is an estrogen-inhibitor. I'm 5'1 108# 16%body fat and have mild PCOS. I was told that because my estrogen levels are so low, no matter how much Femara or Clomid they give me, I will not ovulate as a result. I am now on Metformin...you might want to inquire about it.
It is so frustrating, I know...especially when you try so hard to be and stay healthy.... Best of luck!
